Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

  • Concealed inner cord
  • Single push-button release to collapse the pole
  • One-pull, Speed Cone deployment

Speed Cone technology comes from our expertise in avalanche probe design—a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole’s Kevlar® center cord when folded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wasatch 100 approved I used these for the Wasatch 100 (a 100 mile trail running race) which has 26k ft. of elevation gain. During the race I LOVED how light they are. Anyone who picked them up was surprised by how light they are. When needed they were easy to carry and use both in one hand while I used the other hand to eat snacks or access my water on the go. They break down and snap back together super easily. They felt solid once snapped together. For ultra running I can't think of anything that would make these poles better. They exceeded my expectations of what poles can be and they helped get me across the finish line. Thanks BD!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Good, except for the leash I purchased these for a R2R2R run in the Grand Canyon. I used them for a 2 training runs beforehand, and their total use was under a hundred miles. I really love how they handle for every condition I used them. The big flaw is the wrist leash. I wear a GPS watch when I run, and the leash frayed where it came in contact with it. The material of the leash is different from other webbing I've encountered on my other BD poles. It is very stiff, and once it frayed it was sharp, resulting in cuts on my wrist and forearm. I returned the poles to the place of purchase after my trip. I really, really like them though, and I'm hoping BD looks at this part of the design. I'd love to pick up a new pair if this was addressed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great but.... They were great for 870 miles, then the joint retracted into the upper section of one pole. Bummer. The lightness of the poles is fantastic. I've never had anything so wonderful. The baskets are too close to the tip--they catch on embedded rocks and roots. They would either jerk me back or yank the pole out of my hand, as dictated by my use of the wrist straps. The tip fell out. Maybe I should have checked every 5 miles to see if it was working its way out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One word - AWESOME These poles pack down so small and light and snap together and apart in seconds. The simplicity of the design is fantastic. Grips and straps are also minimal, but very functional and comfortable. The only issue I have is the design of the tips. The hard plastic tips have a curved surface that looks like it keeps them from unscrewing, but the carbide tips don't have that. I tightened them lightly with pliers, but after my second use they had loosened up slightly. I'm a bit nervous I'll end up losing them and damaging the end before I notice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exceeded expectations i could believe how much difference super light weight poles could make. I've used these poles at least 50 times in the last 12 months. I just bought a pair for my hiking buddy ( she loves too). they were one size shorter than mine, but they would be just fine for me as well. I feel BD's size chart is very good. I'm 5'8", and my friend Is 5'4". the BD choice (110cm) seemed a bit long for her based on where her hand naturally fell when she used them. I was certain I could compromise with the 100 cm pole in case she preferred the longer one. she loves either size but has kept the shorter poles. the 100 would be fine for me, but I'm glad to use the 110 size. ps: I own a set of adjustable poles, but they are too bulky and too fiddly. the main thing is too avoid a too-long pole. it slows you down, and will make your shoulders sore if you are not careful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Prone to rust I love the poles, but hiking in the rain will cause the release buttons to rust, making the buttons almost impossible to use. Lubricate the buttons well if you plan to use them in all weather I wa surprised how quickly the rust developed. I expected stainless steel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent, but not perfect. These are wonderful poles. However, that stupid flange that is supposed to allow the folded pole to clip together barely works even when brand new, and not at all after a little use. It also gets caught in rocks, creating situations which can damage the pole. (Yanking up on the pole to free it can break the cord that holds the whole thing together.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still wonderful, but not as good as the older model The poles are amazingly light and easy to fold and unfold. However, the new straps are not as good as the older model. These new straps are polyester-like and on a long hike can irritate the hands; the older model had soft and supple leather-like straps that one could use all day with no irritation.
