"This jacket rocks. I bought it for winter sport climbing and is perfect. Supper warm when belaying, double zipper for easy access to your belay device, huge internal pockets to keep your climbing shoes warm, great helmet friendly hood and I love the no fuss cuffs. I like the cut too."
"This is so warm. During this last winter I actually hoped for coldest days to out this to the test. It was perfect for a trip to Banff"
"This jacket is by far the warmest piece of clothing that I own. I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone! I did have to size up to an XL, but I’m usually in between large and extra large so that’s common."
"Packs down small, blocks the wind and is amazingly warm. I appreciate the athletic fit, many down jackets of this weight are huge but I have no problem fitting this under a touring pack while still maintaining mobility and a human shape. Fits helmet perfectly and the two way zipper is great for accessing harness and calls to nature. Plenty of pockets for gloves, food and skins. The outer fabric holds up well to abrasion and repels moisture. The midnight blue color does show dirt easily but cleans up well."
"This hoody knows how to keep you warm! Its thoughtful and athletic cut moves well with you, and the details are superb—synthetic loft where we tend to get wet, and perfectly crafted pockets. Great for a winter piece in town or for jamming in your backpack for the skin track. Superb!"
"This coat is sick! Not only is it warm as advertised, but fits wonderfully. The zipper action is choice as the loop is easy to grab, even with a glove and has great action. The fit is superb and covers adequately on all wrists, and hips. I love this coat and can't believe i waited so long to get it."
"I attempted to contact Black Diamond directly with this feedback, but the product inquiry inbox was full and my follow-up to the order support channel received only a generic, non-responsive reply. Since I couldn’t get a meaningful answer, I’m posting a shortened version here in case it helps other buyers. I’ve used Black Diamond gear for years—Mission shells, Recon pants, Stormline layers—and it has consistently been excellent. Based on that experience, buying the Mission Down 3000M was an easy decision. On paper, it checked every box: substantial 800-fill insulation, a slightly longer cut, a two-way zipper, a well-designed hood and collar, insulated pockets, and—critically—internal stretch cuffs as stated in the product description. Much of the jacket delivers. The insulation is excellent, the fabric feels durable and confidence-inspiring, and overall warmth is very good. However, the absence of any cuff or wrist seal is a major issue. My jacket has no internal stretch cuffs at all—just open sleeve ends. This allows cold air to flow directly up the sleeves unless I’m wearing under-the-cuff gloves. This design may make sense with under-the-cuff gloves or for belay use with gauntlet gloves, but for casual or everyday winter wear on super cold days, it’s a significant drawback. Without gloves, my wrists get cold quickly, even while the rest of my body is perfectly warm. I tried to adapt, but in practice it limits how and when the jacket can be used comfortably. Two important points for potential buyers: 1. Despite what the product description states, my Mission Down 3000M does not have internal stretch cuffs. 2. If wrist seal matters to you for casual use, be aware that this jacket effectively requires gloves to perform as expected. I genuinely like much of this jacket and will likely keep it, but only with the understanding that it must be worn in a specific way. I would have made a different choice had the cuff design been accurately represented. I hope this helps others make a more informed decision—and I hope Black Diamond eventually clarifies or corrects the product description."
"After years of suffering through winters with temps falling into the single digits and wind chill dropping them even further this coat changed everything. It's super warm, light weight, and extremely comfortable. The color is spot on, it isn't bulky, and the fit is perfect (6', 190lb, long limbed male). I'll be recommending this coat and over again."
"Wry warm, light and comfortable"
"I use it to cycle to work in cold and windy Boston, for cold Engadine winter nights and will use it for winter belay. very nice, warm and more resistant fabric where the backpack is"
