La Spot 400 peut être alimentée de deux façons, soit par batterie rechargeable BD 1500 Li-ion soit par trois piles standard AAA.

"I have an older Black Diamond headlamp that I needed to replace before the Bayview Mackinac sailboat race. The new one sucks in comparison. The instant bright button is way to finicky compared to the old one. The battery indicator lights are sometimes brighter than you have the light set to. So when you turn it off the blue lights blind you or your fellow crewmates. I put finger nail polish over the indicator lights because the light needs new batteries when it doesn't turn on. I don't need a battery indicator on a AAA headlamp. You just carry spares."

"Honestly, I was disappointed with the durability of the Spot 400 headlamp. I've had it for just over three years and it already has several cracks/fissures in the front glass/film and on the edges that support the film. Furthermore, the part on the back that adjusts the headlamp's angle also mysteriously broke. I've always been extremely careful with the headlamp, keeping it in a secure case whenever I transport it. Even so, it wasn't enough to prevent this damage. I sincerely believe the damage is due to a lack of durability, not carelessness on my part. Now, I'd like to know if, with this damage, it's still water-resistant? I'd also like to check if it's possible to send the headlamp to Black Diamond for repair. In short. . . it's a good headlamp, simple to use and with good brightness for walks in wilderness areas."

The battery is good and there aren't any complex or unnecessary functions on the device.
