"Definitely protects you from the sun, and I love the lightweight material, but it has started to pill. I mainly use this for climbing and hiking. I never use the chest pocket, since it would sag/bounce around quite a bit if you put anything more than a tiny card wallet in there. I found the mesh fabric under the arms clever but it felt pretty stiff/heavy compared to the rest of the fabric."

"I just purchased my 2nd Alpenglow Pro because I loved my first one so much. I wear it backpacking, hiking, peak bagging, traveling, on safari in Africa etc. The fabric and side vents truly keep you comfortable in the heat and it does not get smelly. I can wash it in a sink or stream while traveling and it dries very quickly. Only complaint is the color choices for females. The fig color is beautiful but their other woman's colors are pretty bad and have been since I discovered them. I recommend spending the extra money and getting the pro over the regular alpenglow hoody."
"Out of the package I wore this on climb up superstition peak. Yes, it got pulls, but thats expected from the cactus spines - most everything I own has them. The hood feels like a built in a/c. Could get about 3 hikes usage before needing wash from odor, so not bad. And thats including alot of sweat!"

It's the best sun coverage I've found -- the hood is actually big enough that it provides protection for the face rather than just the neck, and the zip is just really convenient. But after feeling like I was suffocating in it on some hikes above the treeline, I went back to an older hoodie from another brand. The improvement in breathability was staggering. (But my face burned because the hood wasn't big enough!) So BD, I'm begging you -- make a version of this in one of the ultralight grid fabrics that breathes better. That would be perfect for a lot of folks/situations!"
