"I’ve been trying BD belay jackets since the very first one in their first season making apparel. I have a good basis for comparison. The arms on my XL are extra tight, on par with a L mid layer. They are short and ride up. I can raise them level with shoulders, then the whole parka rides up and binds. I wear size Large— really —in other BD garments such as their trim fitting wind shirt. Despite this, I can’t move my arms freely in this piece. It’s nonrestrictive only when my arms are downward for belaying off a harness (obviously not the only way to belay in the mountains). In summary, the XL was too small for me as a size L wearer; with the shipping plus the handling fee to return, I’m in quite a bit of money just to try on a piece that shouldn’t have made it to market."
