Great Summer Layer

"This jacket excels at shielding from strong winds found above treeline. It can shed a very small amount of water, but does wet through fairly quick which I expected. I found the hood to be not great when not wearing a helmet - even cinched all the way down it still swallows my face if I don't wear a ballcap. For me it also seems to hold odors, and after a 3 day trip it smelled absolutely terrible compared to the rest of my clothes."

Great for above treeline

"Lightweight and does great against high-speed winds in the alpine. Not so great against rain, but it handles wind like a champ. Also, surprisingly warm for those cooler mornings in the mountains. Overall, very happy with it. I’m 5’11, 165 pounds and found the medium fits perfect."

Very comfortable soft shell with

"Very comfortable soft shell with good freedom of movement and enough wind/rain resistant. Nicely packable. My go to alpine climbing hoody. 5'9 150lbs and the large feels great."

Poorly made

"I owned this jacket for about 6-8 months before the stitching started coming undone in 2 different places. It was only worn casually and not on any climbs. I reached out to BD and they wanted me to send it in for repairs. This was not ideal, but I was considering it as it was the only option they gave me. Shortly after, I noticed another section of stitching that was coming undone. At this point, sending this jacket in for repairs seemed like a poor option since more stitching would probably fail after the three repairs had been made. This jacket is just not constructed well. I reached out to BD but repair was still the option they gave me. I shouldn’t have to have an expensive jacket that is hardly worn repaired when it is less than a year old. It’s one thing if it’s my fault but when it is due to manufacturer defect, BD should offer either a replacement or the option to return the item. I explained this to BD and received no further response. BD used to stand behind their products. I used to rave about their customer service to friends. Well something has change and I no longer trust BD with gear that should hold up in the mountains, or even more so if only worn casually. There are better products out there in this price range. There are better products out there for less. If you plan to buy this jacket, hopefully you’ll have better luck than I did. If not, don’t count on Black Diamonds customer service. Their warranty is worthless."

"Very light yet very warm"

Great jacket

"More like a wind breaker. I run really hot and appreciate how breathable it is. Wore or recently to climb a flatiron and it was the perfect amount of earth yet breathable. 6'2 270 lbs and the 3 XL fit great. I also really appreciate that it comes in a 3 XL."

Surprisingly Good

"When it first arrived I was skeptical on how good it could perform since it was incredibly lightweight and to be honest it didn't feel like it would work. I went hiking to a snowy mountain at temperatures around 15°F and wind above 30mph and didn't feel the necessity to put on any more layers. It exceeded my expectations. Would definitely recommend."

Minimalist Softshell

"This is what is says on the tin. It has barely any features and that what makes it so great. No pockets, no hem cord, only a helmet sinch (which is needed) and a chest pocket (doubling as the jackets stuff sack). This sheds the summit wind and squall like a boss and when you're done with the early morning approach or summit push it packs away so small you'd barely notice it. couldn't recommend this more for someone who wants that minimalist softshell. If you're planning on spending all day in this than maybe a more feature jacket would be the right choice for the creature comforts."
