"I wanted something for long summer runs when I need some hydration, but not much else. The waffle material seems to deal with sweat a bit better than other finer mesh materials, such as in the Distance 4 and 8. The chest pockets are narrow, but my I can run with my phone on one side, a skinny water bladder in the other, a few small snacks, with another bottle in the lumbar pocket, to swap out. The small is a bit tighter than the same size in the models listed above, but it feels fine in use."
"Looks and feels good, so far. I have only used it 2 time since bought. Material feels a bit "stiff", which makes it a bit uncomfortable behind the neck, where it rubs the skin while walking/running. It may soften up in time, but I think the cut around the neck is a bit high, the discomfort would not be that much if the cut would have been a bit deeper in the back of the neck (like other competitors do)."
"This is a great vest. It is lightweight, comfortable to wear, and has a functional elements for the water bottles and small items. I am 5'2" 130 lbs. The small fits perfectly."
"It is really comfortable and when you tighten it it doesn’t move around at all witch it really good It also has a lot more room that you would think I was able to hole a very light small jacket and some gels along with my phone and keys with extra room. I would totally recommend"
"I’ll preface this review by saying that I own nearly every size of Black Diamond’s Distance packs and use them for everything from hot summer miles in a vest to winter mountain outings. Overall, this vest is pretty good. It fits well, carries comfortably, breathes great in summer heat and can easily hold enough gear for longer runs (for me) in the 2 to 4 hour range. That said, the new oval-shaped bottles are a real drawback for me. The bottle retention system appears to be built around this proprietary shape, which feels like another step toward locking users into Black Diamond’s exclusive system rather than allowing more cross-compatibility. I appreciate manufacturers who make gear that works well with competitor products, because to me that shows confidence in their own design rather than insecurity. I was hoping to use this vest for short winter runs, but Black Diamond currently does not offer insulated soft flasks for this system. When I tried using my insulated soft flasks from other brands, they simply did not sit well or hold securely in the new bottle pockets and lid area. Rather than addressing the issues with the previous sewn bungee cord loop and creating a user-replaceable bungee system, it seems like BD is pushing users toward this new bottle design instead. The bottles themselves also have noticeably lower flow than other brands I have used. So far, I have found that I need to apply significant squeeze pressure while also biting the valve just to get the flow rate close to acceptable. In addition, BD does not currently offer an insulated flask or a flask with a built-in filter, so anyone who wants those options has to use other brands. . . and those bottles just do not integrate well with the new system. I really do love the way Black Diamond running harnesses fit across their packs. For me, they are more comfortable than the tighter fit of something like Salomon. But please, Black Diamond before going too far down the proprietary fit rabbit hole, make sure you offer equivalent options to what already exists from other brands. Otherwise, stick to what you do best by designing excellent packs that allow users to adjust and customize their kits for the conditions they actually run in."
"Simply lovely"
"The best works great! Super light and breathable. The vest stays put while running and does not shift and rub my neck like others I have used"
"I hate all vests. Now with that said i think this is a great one! i much prefer a running belt but there are races/long training days where a vest and/or a belt are needed and this one, while small, is mighty! combining this with a belt and as long as there is water available on the run you can go for as long as you need, minimal bounce and the pole carry is great i really liked that aspect! the staps accross the chest are not my favorite, and there aren't any loops for the bottles but not a huge issue for me. this is the minimal vest i have been in search of!"
"Great minimalist vest. I have a 39" chest and the medium size fits well. There are no bottle loops to hold the flasks in their sleeves as were in the older models but the flasks maintain a tight fit and this is a non-issue. If anything this will save time at aid stations during races. One thing of note is that the BD flasks that come with this are not made by HydraPak so you cannot use HP locking caps with the BD flasks. They do seem high quality and slide into the slots easily though. I was looking for something that could carry a little more than my Raide LF2 belt but more minimal than my 6L vest and this checks the box."
"Just what I needed. Lightweight and easy"
