The revised Momentum Lace is built for ultimate comfort but excels in performance.

Made with premium materials and engineered with performance climbing in mind, the shoe’s flat last makes it ideal for the nuanced footwork required on vertical terrain and slabs. That said, the Momentum Lace is versatile enough to be sized down for gym climbing and steeper climbing styles.

Sizing notes: The sizing of these climbing shoes is based on the actual dimensions of the last, unlike street shoes that often have space built in for comfort. Your size will be smaller than your street shoe size; snug- to tight-fitting climbing shoes will allow you to get the best connection between your feet and the rock.

  • Highest performance fit: Subtract 2–2.5 EU sizes from your EU street shoe size equivalent
  • All-day performance fit: Subtract 1.5–2 EU sizes from your EU street shoe size equivalent
  • All-day comfort fit: Subtract 0.5–1 EU size from your EU street shoe size equivalent

I'd recommend this shoe to

"I'd recommend this shoe to someone who is new, or has a wide food, or is looking for a spacious shoe for all day comfort. Definitely size down when you purchase this shoe! I've typically purchased 37 and 37. 5 in La Sportiva Tarantulaces, and those have fit me perfectly, but when using a 37. 5 in this shoe, it was definitely too big. The shoes even felt a bit big with socks on. I think if I could do it again, I would buy a 36 or 36. 5. The mesh tongue provides some extra comfort on the top of your foot - I really liked that feature. The toe box is super roomy for wide feet, but the heel is a little rough at first. I suspect it takes some significant breaking in to loosen up. I also think the rubber wasn't the stickiest, but perhaps that's somewhat typical for a beginner/casual shoe?"

comfy and grippy

"Super great shoe right out of the box. Comfortable, bug grippy."

Great beginner shoe - balancing comfort and performance

"These shoes were more comfortable than almost any other shoe I’ve tried while still providing impressive performance. I would strongly recommend these shoes to anyone new to climbing. They offer great confidence that your toes will hold without leaving your feet in pain! I’ve been climbing casually for years and started climbing more in the last few months with the hopes of significantly improving my ability. Most of my time is spent bouldering in the gym, and most of my projects are V3 and V4. I climbed a variety of different routes over five gym sessions in these shoes. These shoes fit bigger than other climbing shoes I’ve tried, so I would recommend sizing down. I typically wear a 39, and found the 38 to be a good fit in these. They felt significantly wider than other climbing shoes I’ve tried in the past, but that added to the comfort and the lacing made it easy to adjust. The only difficulty I had with fit was the heel cup — which is probably largely because of my foot shape (I have an incredibly wide forefoot and narrow heel). My heel had some wiggle room, which caused some rubbing after long climbing sessions, but never enough to cause any true hot spots or blisters. Overall, I would recommend this shoe to any new climber who wants to enjoy growing their capabilities with long climbing sessions and long route without hating their feet! Black Diamond gave me this free product to try."

The Momentum is a super

"The Momentum is a super comfy climbing shoe, which is great for beginners or anyone who wants something easy to wear all day. They performed better than expected on slabby climbs that require more precise footwork which was a huge plus. I found them to hold up pretty well, only just now starting to look worn after 3 weeks of consistent use (climbing 3-4 times a week). Overall I am very happy with the performance of these shoes, and found myself reaching for these over my tarantulaces when looking for a neutral, softer shoe. They are a solid choice if you're just getting into climbing, or looking for all day comfort."

Women’s momentum climbing shoes!

"I gave this score because I thought they were a generally good shoe, they just didn’t fit my feet right. I probably could have sized down. I am a 7 and 7 1/2 and I got a 37. 5. They fit well and my toes go to the end, there is just a large space right above the toes that feel loose. I like my shoes to be very fitting to my feet. Not sure if the large space above my toes was just about my feet or if it’s generally like that. They were pretty comfortable shoes, I could belay in them. At first they did rub at my ankle on the back but that seemed to go away. The rubber on the shoes felt good while climbing indoors, but if you’re climbing on smooth granite, they might be a little slippery. I think I would recommend these for indoors climbing, and maybe outdoor climbing if you climb on more textured rocks."

Great grip and durability!

"I’m a size 8 and got a 38. 5 and they fit perfectly. Was worried maybe I got too small but was surprised they fit true to sizing. Comfortable/ moderate fitting shoes. I love the lace up. Great as upgrade from a beginner shoe. Rubber is durable and has lots of stick. Gripped well on my indoor and outdoor climbs. Would recommend these shoes to climbers wanting a step up from beginner shoe. Black Diamond gave me this free product to try."

Confidently Recommend to anyone looking for comfort

"Great shoe for anyone getting into climbing or bouldering. The Momentum is comfortable to wear for extended periods. I love that it comes in both a lace and Velcro version. Shoe runs a bit on the narrow side, the upper does have some stretch and give that helps conform to your foot. I usually wear a 7. 5 shoe and sized down to a 7 for these. I am happy with the fit. The rubber feels stiff without feeling like a board, I trust these shoes will hold up to anything I can take on as someone who is just gaining confidence in a climbing journey. Black Diamond gave me this free product to try."

Gorgeous comfortable shoe! Sizing runs large

"Black Diamond gave me this free product to try. These shoes are gorgeous! Love the color and design! And super comfortable for a neutral climbing shoe. The toe edge grips well. Rubber seems solid and well molded! Did not show much wear and tear after multiple bouldering and top roping. Velcro has a lot of range for adjusting the shoe fit. Only thing to note is they run quite large, I ordered a 37. 5 (6. 5W) which is what I normally wear for a climbing shoe. These felt a half size larger than my old momentums and my current moderate shoe. My normal street shoe size is 7. But the velcro helped to tighten them around my foot to stay in place. I would size down a half size from your normal climbing shoe when ordering."

Black Diamond Momentum Lace Climbing Shoes

"Black Diamond gave me this free product to try. I wear size 8 women’s shoes and sized down to a 7. 5 for these shoes. I should have gone down to a 7… they run large! Overall they fit a little wider than I would like for my narrow feet but would be a good option for wider feet. They were comfortable on and off the wall, not too aggressive and able to wear while belaying too. The rubber lasted great and seems like it will last for a long time!! Overall a good beginner or all around shoe if you have wider feet."
