Fantastic, lightweight shell

"This is a lightweight and sporty technical shell suitable for both the backcountry and the city. We took it on a recent alpine hike, and the jacket cut the wind nicely and shook off rain in a sudden squall. The quality of construction and seam-sealing are top notch, as to be expected from BD, and the jacket packs light. However, this isn't a heavy-duty alpine or climbing shell, so factor that in when decision-making. And ya, it has pit zips! (or as my gf calls them, underarm holes)"

I’ve had two models of

"I’ve had two models of the stretch shell over the past few years as a guide in Alaska, and it’s been one of my favorite raincoats! Lightweight, durable for 100+ days of guiding in the rain and snow (and still going), I’m stoked to have another on hand for when my original runs out of steam. Wish they had kept the sunshine yellow color in stock!"

Great jacket

"Packs down nicely and does the job! Favorite features are the armpit vents, the hood adjustability, and packability."

Bought a second one!

"After my last jacket served me on countless rainy trips for the past 6 years, it was time to re-purchase the same one! It's lightweight, breathable, and keeps the water out."

Reliable

"I got this to replace my old Stormline jacket, which is worn to the point it no longer accepts waterproofing treatment. This next generation design has all the same features I loved about the Stormline, with an updated cut (tailored waist, a touch longer)."

Not for PNW rain

"Beautiful fit, lovely purple color. But unfortunately does not stand up to the PNW rain. After 4 hours of hiking in steady/pouring rain (at 37-40 degrees) with occasional tree drips, both jacket and pants fully wetted out and we had to turn around and go back to the cars instead of backpacking overnight as planned. Probably good for intermittent rain up to that 4 hr mark. I'm wearing the 2XL purple."

There’s waterproof and then there’s PNW waterproof

"First of all I love that this coat packs down light and compact. I purchased it for this purpose to use backpacking. Unfortunately- it is only waterproof for several hours under extreme weather. I put it through the test this weekend here in the very wet and cold spring of the PNW. After about 4 hours out in the rain, I was soaked through to my core. My puffy, fleece, merino and skin were all wet. Luckily we were within turn around distance and did not have to spend the night out in the elements. Anyway - something to consider if you will be out in drenching weather for long periods at a time - you will want something more waterproof, and probably heavier weight."

Great versatile jacket!

"Bought this jacket for a trip abroad to a rainy locale. Folds small enough to pack in sling bag. Size medium fits my athletic frame (5’4”-145 lbs) perfectly, fitted at the waist, but loose enough for plenty of room for layers underneath. The sleeves are a bit long for me, but easy to adjust around wrists with Velcro. Hood is designed to wear over a helmet, but can be adjusted for a regular rainy day. All Black Diamond clothing I own is good quality and this jacket did not disappoint. This will be a staple for all of my outdoor adventures."

"Simple and lightweight, good price"

great color, great function, great fit

"Really impressed with this raincoat. It has a sharp, well-shaped silhouette and a bit of stretch that makes it comfortable throughout the day. The underarm vents are a great touch for airflow, and the zippered pockets keep everything secure. The hood offers plenty of room and coverage, and it conveniently packs into itself. Plus, it’s incredibly lightweight—you hardly notice it’s there."
