Our tried-and-true on-route alpine pack, proven everywhere from the Canadian Rockies to the Fitz Roy massif, the Black Diamond Speed is designed for lightweight performance on rock, snow and ice objectives the world over.

Featuring an updated BD X-rip 210d fabric with UTS™ coating, the new Speed is built to withstand season after season of mountain abuse. The pack is also fully strippable with a removable waistbelt, lid and frame-sheet, for minimalizing your set-up. We’ve improved the comfort as well with a moisture-wicking, updated back-panel and redesigned shoulder straps of dual-density foam for better load distribution on the approach while remaining streamlined on route. Ice tool PickPockets™ now feature a new custom metal dogbone ice tool attachment, boosting ice tool security, plus the snag-free crampon straps and a tuck-away rope strap secure gear to the outside. Surface-mounted glove-friendly main hood-buckles are a new addition and the drawcord skirt provides easy access and keeps out spindrift and light precip.

Reviews

Immediately tore at the base

"Very first day using this pack on normal trails and conditions and it developed a tear in the base! Less than 20lb load, set it down on rocks and it had contact with trees, both of which should be very normal wear/activities, and found the pictured gash. Very disappointed."

Surprisingly ridged considering the weight!

"Super light, expanding, yet ridged. Used for some ice routes with rope, screws, draws, and the rest onboard. No back issues from flexible packs with oddly weighted contents"

John W. (5/5)

Great climbing pack

"This is my 4th multipitch climbing pack and by far my favourite. Great size, lots of compartments for the smaller things and snacks. So glad I got this."

Betty C. (5/5)

Bag fits everything I need

"Bag fits everything I need for a day climbing. Not the most durable bag if you rub it against rock too much. Took it on a canyoneering trip and it got some holes from rubbing through the slots. Over all great bag though. I appreciate the versatility it has and adjustability on extras I can have or remove"

Gustavo S. (4/5)

Light backpack

"Very light back pack for day hikes , enough to carry foods and water for short hikes"

Arash S. (5/5)

Could be the best but. . . .

"Does the job and i look amazing while i'm at it. But the devil is jn the detail, if you are gonna put some extras at least do it right! The attachments in the hipbelt looks so bad, so low quality!"

Icaro V. (4/5)

Amazing Pack

"Bought this pack for light and fast climbing trips and it has been perfect"

Tanner F. (5/5)

Perfectly Dialed Trad Pack

"Black Diamond's Speed Packs provide everything I need and appreciate in a trad pack without any unnecessary fluff 'n' stuff added. I'm a tall man with a short torso, and the smaller size sits nicely, even while wearing a harness and climbing multipitch routes. The pack also carries a rope nicely, with five compression straps keeping it in place. While I haven't used this pack for skiing, I can strongly recommend it for all-day climbing adventures."

Lee O. (5/5)

Great pack

"Like my larger BD pack, this thing is a bucket. It fits a ton of gear, but doesn’t wear like a big, heavy pack. Feels good in the hips, and distributes weight well."

Greg P. (5/5)

Speed 30 pack

"I bought this pack intending to use it for mountaineering, rock climbing and over night hikes in the Grand Canyon. I was concerned about durability and how the pack would feel fully loaded. All concerns are over for this pack. The speed 30 has been incredible in all weather 100° to 20° fully loaded over loaded and with hardly anything in it. I like how it feels with or without the lid. Holds all my gear perfectly. This will be a hard pack to beat."
