Surprised at the out-of-box comfort

"I've bought a few pairs of approach shoes from different companies over the years. Usually, I find them too stiff when I start to wear them. Not these Technician Pros, though. They have a thick comfortable footbed, and a fairly wide toe box. It was. pleasant surprise. I haven't hit the trails yet, but based on the first 30-40 hours of wear, these are going to be the new high-bar for me. I sized up a half size and they fit just right."

Great show with one critical flaw

"Love most everything about the shoes. The grip, volume, stiffness, durability are all top notch. HOWEVER, like another reviewer, the padding around the Achilles is a bit high or much, and causes a sore Achilles after only moderate walking. Sadly, I am moving on from these, I really want to love them and give a full five stars, but after so many “just one more try” attempts I’m signing off."

Narrow! But great technical approach shoes

"Stiff sole, and good edging - this rivals the all-heralded La Sportiva TX Guide as a show for scrambling and moderate climbing grades. The main watch out is that it is on the narrow side. Just got back from a 7 mile hike, and my feet (slightly wide) are swiss cheese. So for me, these can only be used on short distances"

RIP my achilles

"I want to love these so much. They feel so great under foot and feel wider on my medium width feet than any la sportiva evo approach shoes, but the height of the heel cup is TOO MUCH and has like no cushion. Like so many other reviews here mention, it just DESTROYS my heel and Achilles. I have to wear thicker socks and tape my heels to prevent any issues. If this shoe just copied the heel cup of the la sportive Evo it would be perfect. Just lower the height a bit and add a little more padding :("

"These are one of the more comfortable approach shoes Ive ever had. They run true to size exactly, no surprises in fit. The cushioning is way above average. Same with the support. I even wesr them to work on a concrete warehouse floor and they are great. Very happy with them. Innitally I mistakenly ordered the wrong size. But before they shipped I caught it and cuatomer support was super fast to respond and help me sort that out. Black Diamond is class outfit all the way around. Crazy fast shipping and handling. Three days from ordering to wearing them."

Great, dependable footwear

"Bought my first pair in Seward Alaska. As a disabled veteran with neuropathy in both legs and feet, I was in desperate need of a good pair of shoes. We were on a 5 month rv trip. Three years later we are getting ready for our second 5 to 6 month, 16,000 mile plus trip to Alaska and Canada and I thought that a second pair would be a good idea. These shoes are incredibly durable and comfortable. I expect them to last a good long time as the first pair show almost no wear after almost 3 years of daily use. They are a great shoe at a great value."

Approach Shoes

"A substantial improvement over BDs previous models. Seems like quality is exhibited with every element. Fit and performance are excellent!"

Ben K. (5/5)

Sturdy approach shoe

"I have been looking for a pair of approach shoes to replace my old Selawa ones. I have wide feet and all of the new models from Salewa and La Sportiva are now too narrow. These BD ones are the widest ones I could find and seem to fit great! They are much sturdier than other approach shoes I have had and took a couple trips to break in, but I am really liking them. They have a stiffer sole which seems to benefit difficult rocky approaches with a heavy load on. The downside of the stiffer shoe has been that I haven't generally felt as secure on vertical technical climbing (5. 7/5. 8) as I did in my softer shoes. These are approach shoes though and not climbing shoes so I'm not upset about it. I have not had any issues with the cuffs as other reviewers have mentioned. Overall great shoe that seems like it will take a beating and keep going."

Perfect shoes

"Very nice shoes, super comfortable, the perfect size but a little heavy"

Paul H. (5/5)

Sweaty and expensive

"Mostly good shoes after one month of heavy use. One significant flaw is that they smell worse than any shoe I've ever worn. It feels like this is due to a lack of breathability, as my feat feel far sweatier than in other approach shoes I've owned."
