Reviews

Used to be the best tent, now I'm not so sure. . .

"I've spent literal years of my life sleeping in Black Diamond Mega Mid tents, and I used to absolutely swear by them. Now, it kind of seems like the stretch out and warp weirdly, and are just not as durable as before. The fabric doesn't seem better, the zipper doesn't seem better, the construction doesn't seem better, so I'm not sure why they updated the design. I'm currently looking at other, similar styles from different companies"

Great Tent!

"The Black Diamond Mega Light 4P is a fantastic tent and pairs perfectly with the Mega Bug mesh tent. The one issue is that it has different dimensions than the previous version and they cannot be switched out easily. It would have been better if they kept the size the same."

Kathy M. (4/5)

OK but. . . . .

"They say you get what you pay for, but for $400, I expect a little more than an overpriced piece of sewn fabric. Doss its job but overpriced."

Anthony S. (3/5)

Only 2 Seasons

"Loved this tent while it lasted. Unfortunately I only got two seasons out of it before the material stretched out now won't keep its shape on one side. I was hoping with the price tag it would've lasted longer, or at least come with a repair/warranty option."

Solidly Upgraded Mega

"I gave my first-gen MegaLight to our Zambezi guide recently, which meant I got to replace it with a new one. Have not used it yet, but upon inspection it seems very well built and reinforced for all conditions. Does not seem quite as light in the hand though. Perhaps I will appreciate those updates in the next big storm."

Michael B. (4/5)

Some great improvements but still could use a few more.

"This is my 3rd Mid and some great improvements. Seam taped, built in tensioners, better fabric and mid panel guy points. On the minus side the lines aren't long enough to go around rocks if you are camping on slabs or hard ground and the zip cover doesn't really lay flat over the zipper so rain can get to the zip. The guy lines are very fragile and if you have them around a rock and move the rock to tension or adjust its angle they cut very easily. A slightly thicker line would have been a better choice."

Looks good so far!

"A little early for a review as I haven’t actually camped under it yet, but fabric feels great and seems seem solid. Set it up over my 14’ raft. Raft is only 7’ wide so needed to work a little to get it to fit without sagging. Looks like it’ll be perfect for when it rains on a river trip, and I think it’ll fit perfectly on the big 18’ Grand Canyon rigs."

Big fan

"Have used it on the main and middle fork of the salmon river. I’ve taken it on first and last trips of the season, it’s been in every scenario but a snow fall. Stood the test. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I’ve been waiting for years for a bug screen and for whatever reason it’s not making it into production. What the deal BD?"

Joshua C. (4/5)

Improved

"I have an older mid and this has some great improvements. Better Fabric (haven't had the chance to test this), It's seam taped, has tie outs for the middle of the panels and it has line locks for easier adjustments. Great improvements."

Andrew M. (5/5)

Tough, light, simple

"I was first introduced to the Mega Light during a month-long trip sea kayaking in British Columbia. Heavy rains and heavy bugs. The lightweight shelter kept the rain off us day after day. This was easy to set up in a variety of conditions and tough enough not to fail. I was so impressed with the tent that I just got my own, and look forward to using it with my family on future adventures."
