Works Great

"I know this shovel is primarily designed for avalanche rescue, which hopefully I will never have to use in that situation. However, it has been a fantastic tool for backcountry winter camping with digging out a platform so my tent can be blocked from the wind as well as digging holes to burry snow stakes/extra guy lines. My only mild “con” would be the button that allows you to remove the shaft or switch to hoe mode seems pretty finicky in cold temps if there’s any snow/ice around the button especially when wearing thicker gloves. It’s difficult to get the button to stay pushed down while also getting the glove out of the way. Otherwise, fantastic device. It’s nice that there are holes around the edges of the blade so that you can attach it to the outside of your back easily if it won’t fit on the inside."

Talk about quality.

"I have had many small show shovels over the years and this one is so much better. The material is strong light and easy to clean. Can shovel coals and snow, compact it down easily and even cook on it (in a pinch). Awesome product"

Built to Last

"Who needs a backhoe when you have a BD shovel with you. It is a beast, robust, lightweight, and durable. It digs quickly to make a parameter shelter around your tent at basecamp and even to dig a hole at the entrance of your tent for easier access and to place your backpack upright inside the vestibule and to allow the cold air to drop into the hole rather in your tent. Lay some pine branches on the floor of the hole and can lay your boots on it and your gear to keep them off the snow and can put your feet on the branches to keep them dry. I really appreciate the two different position capabilities and the extension. It really works well when building a snow cave. So much easier to pull the snow out of the snow cave when it is in piles rather than scooping it out. Packs well outside your pack in two pieces. I highly recommend getting one!"

Solid Equipment

"Good Design Compact in the Pack. Feels Sturdy, all functions work"

Jeremiah G. (5/5)

Great workhorse

"I have had 4 of these shovels now so I guess I just keep buying them. I am a professional Heliski guide as so I use my shovel a lot. I love the way this shovel feels for digging and it works really well in Hoe mode. You can move a ton of snow I don’t always love the way it fits in my pack, but it isn’t terrible. I do find it can ice up a bit on the handle making it harder to collapse. Overall there are lots of shovels on the market and I keep buying this one. I can overlook the negative aspects because functionally it is really great"

Best shovel for professional/recreational use.

"Best shovel for professional/recreational use. on the heavy side but worth the weight . I recommend this shovel to everyone I work with professional or recreational."

Sandy E. (5/5)

Light and sturdy

"Working great for side country adventures, kicker builds and car dig outs. Recommended"

Mike C. (5/5)

Sturdy, nice handle

"I've had a few incantations of this shovel. I find the handle is stout and easy to use, and the rest of the shovel is tough enough for debris. I've gone through two of them in the last six years, but I use them extensively for work"

Mitchell U. (4/5)

Well designed shovel

"Out of the box it looked and felt amazing. The evac 7 was easy to take apart and change between the two settings. Perfect size for everything. It’s not too small and it’s not too big."

Caleb B. (4/5)

Awesome Shovel

"The shape of the handle makes it an excellent and efficient tool, it also makes it fit in my pack awkwardly."
