"The Distance 8 is an incredible hybrid day pack / running vest. It can be filled with a day's worth of layers, snacks, and water, then compressed down into a form-fitting running vest. The pockets are well thought-out and the main compartment is pretty close to waterproof, making it a great pack even for snowy alpine ascents or scrambles. The 2nd generation fixed the main issue with the 1st, the water bottle size, and it now holds standard, "long" 500mL bottles. The vest compression system is better now as well, if slightly less adjustable. This is the perfect pack for long, fast days. The 8L capacity is ideal for a single day in the alpine."
"The distance 8 has been great so far. The 8 liter size is perfect to fit everything I need for a day out in the mountains. I use this pack for all my trail runs plus day hikes that I want to move fast and light on. Very durable and I love being able to stuff things in the vest pockets. It’s a very versatile pack and the size is perfect."
"This is my first running vest, but I’ve tried several other ways of carrying my stuff from waist belts to my hands. This vest carries all the rain gear, snacks, water and small things I need for a run in the mountains in Montana. The HydraPak ultraflask speed 500ml fit the front pockets. You can put a bear spray canister in one if needed. For longer outings you can put a 1. 5 liter bladder in back too. The Distance 8 cinches down tightly in back and doesn’t bounce. Overall I’m super happy with this running solution. If I could add one thing it might be a stretchy pocket on the back of the bag for quick stuffables. Not a deal breaker though."
"Love the Distance 8 Pack. The pole sleeves are awesome. I love the pack, the shoulder straps and front pockets are great and well thought out. the top closure is easy and fast, even when you are tired."
"Love the bag so far but with how broad the shoulder straps and side banding are the pack is almost another layer which can get hot quick"
"Great lightweight daypack for Hike/Run hybrid. Breathable and plenty of room for hydration and calories plus loops for trekking poles."
"Got it for gravel riding so I can carry a few bits and bobs like bike tools, Nano rain jacket, gloves, snacks, headlamp, Titan solar lamp, etc. Can hold a good amount of water too between back bladder and two front strap compartments a couple of 500ml soft bladders. Zipper section holds phone, two side compartments for longer items. Fits close to my body so it's nice and streamlined on my back without lots of dangling materials a/o straps. Build quality is superb, materials are bomber and extremely lightweight. Just an overall smart design and execution. Im 5'7" and about 180 lbs. and ordered a large - it's super comfortable."
"Took this for a spin over the Paintbrush Divide and here's what impressed me: Perfect size pack bag with excellent compression and closure--no bouncing. Excellent ventilation and quick drying on the back panel. Very comfortable. Good visibility with color but not obnoxious. I prefer the Distance 4 for training runs as the mesh is cooler. Would not use either for technical climbing as I use shoulder slings for gear and slings and that would be a tangle."
"I’ve only test driven it so far, but it’s well made and comfortable. I ended up with a size L. I tried an M after measuring the circumference of my lower rib zone like the size guide says. I was on the upper end of M but didn’t want a floppy bag. I guess the size guide is for real, lean ultra runner types that don’t get much wider above the lower ribs. I lift a bit and have large lats and broad shoulders and had to return it and size up. The L fits great!"
"Very comfortable and intuitive!"
| Size | Torso Circumference |
|---|---|
| S | 26.5 - 33.5 in 67 - 85 cm |
| M | 31.5 - 39.5 in 80 - 100 cm |
| L | 35.5 - 44 in 90 - 112 cm |
The redesigned harness system on our Distance packs reduces bunching by extending all the way to the backpanel, and incorporates Stitch-less Edge Taping technology (soft, flexible edge binding on the 4L) allowing for superior fit and comfort.
