Replacement Skin Tail Straps

"All plastic straps wear out over time, whether on ski skins or on snowshoes. They typically last about 10 years before aging and cracking. I greatly appreciated the fact that Black Diamond offers replacement straps for their ski skins, considering that the skins themselves will probably last me 20 or 30 years. The old tail straps can be pried out using a screwdriver and pliers (this is a little tricky, just be patient and methodical), and the new straps slide into place very easily. Now my Ascension skins are ready for another 10 years before needing a strap replacement."

New Life to Old Skins

"I used these to rehab some Ascension skins which must date to just after BD bought the brand. The skins are still truck - my 15 year old uses them for touring 2 or 3 decades after I bought them. But the tails died a hard death. This kit replaced them and they are still going strong. Even though the skins were very old the mold for the rubber seems to be a perfect fit."

Great looking product, but designed to fail.

"I love my BD skins, Fritschi binders, poles, etc etc. However, these tail straps and clips are not like the other BD products. I’ve gone through 3 sets this season alone (Nov 2020 - April 2020). Each pair of tail straps tears the loop that holds the clip, the plastic is just not durable enough. I adjust each strap correctly by making sure that it doesn’t require too much force to secure the tail clip onto the ski, yet providing enough positive pressure to keep the skin attached to the ski while skinning. With all this work and money put into this product I’ve still been burned 3 times. My next move is to switch skins to another company until BD changes their tail clip design. Like I stated before, I love most of my BD products, but this one is not on that list."
