Rated 5 out of 5 by John from Great light, improvement over previous version I owned two of the previous generation versions and love them. Could use them for multiple uses and provide plenty of brightness and battery life. Was intrigued by the increased brightness and updated form factor for this version and decided to try it out. I think the button control, battery locking mechanism, and general form factor / band adjustment are even better on the new version. I compared both lights side by side with fresh batteries and the new light is definitely brighter, although both are so bright it is really a luxury to have even more brightness. So far after a couple weeks of tinkering I'm very happy with the updated version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AG from storm I'm a rescuer diver for 'The Worlds Toughest Mudder' event (a 24 hour endurance race) One of the obstacles is a 35 foot cliff that hangs above Lake Las Vegas. A few days after the event I dove below the cliff to recover a camera that was dropped. On my dive I noticed a small red light in the distance. It turned out to be a Storm head lamp laying 22 feet under water that a participant had dropped. It was still on and it had been there for 4 days! I got home, rinsed it off and added it to my camping kit. I also bought on from REI since I knew they worked so well!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kevin from Great headlamp, some small flaws Definitely deserves 5 stars. Very bright, well sealed, lots of light options/combos, the green light is awesome, good battery life. My old Storm often wouldn't screw in right after replacing batteries and wasn't fully sealed, they have solved that in this model. I do have some small qualms. The highest brightness is more diffuse than the old Storm, so it's more of a floodlight, this is better for some, worse for some, I would prefer a longer reach than the flood. The elastic strap has one buckle facing out and is comfy but the other one faces in and digs into my head, I really don't understand why BD would arrange it like that. The headlamp also makes a high pitch whining noise. It's faint but in total silence and near your ear it can be loud and annoying. Overall a fantastic piece of gear, I'm very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Steve from Black Diamond Storm--2016 If you're looking for lightweight AAA-powered LED headlamp but can't decide between the various BD models, for example, the ReVolt, Spot and Storm. Just get the Storm it's fantastic, you will not regret it. ReVolt is a bit gimmicky, a great utility light around camp but for trail finding go the Storm, it's far superior, and it's even better than the Spot. The Storm operates on 4xAAA's, so it's light-weight, with reasonable battery life, nothing like the numbers quoted on the box but still reasonable considering the size of the unit, on the same scale of a matchbox. And its 100% water resistant. For night trails--there's nothing on the market that comes close to the Storm's performance, size, and weight. My next pick is the Spot, and the last place goes to ReVolt which needs more lumens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jennifer from AWESOME lamp but not thrilled with the new strap design I was SO excited when this new headlamp was released because I have been searching for equipment for my 2017 AT thru-hike. This puppy is built like a tank and the light is AWESOME. SUPER happy with the quality of the lamp portion - looks and acts like top-notch equipment. The big disappointment is the strap system for me. I thought it was actually a factory flaw so I wrote Black Diamond only to find out that it was built that way. One buckle on the strap is facing out while the other buckle is facing in. You can very much feel the bump on your head from that buckle that is facing in. Not sure how I would like it after hours of night-hiking. I pulled out all 3 other headlamps, including a BD Revolt in the house and none of them have a buckle up against the head, they are all flat so it sits flat on your head...bummed because now I have to go find a spare strap somewhere to put on my new awesome headlamp.

Rated 3 out of 5 by S L from Good Product, Bad Headband Overall, this is a great Headlamp. I am impressed by the brightness of the red light setting, as well as the user friendliness of the light functions. The head band is not well thought out though. Because of the double buckles, one of the buckle loops is flipped the wrong/ illogical/ uncomfortable way, and creates a pressure point. I swapped the band out with the one from my older model "Black Diamond Spot" headlamp, and the comfort improved greatly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kram from Poor design on the strap I should have read the review closer before I purchased. The reversed buckle makes the headband an uncomfortable pressure point for those of us with very short hair. The light works fine and I will eventually get the number of presses down, but will need to find a replacement headband or find a way to wrap the buckle. I guess the person who did the design never wore the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kendrick from Quality Light Ive owned my headlamp for only a few months but so far so good. What jumps out at me is the light housing. It feels super burley. the plastic dosen't seem brittle, and the rubber around the housing I think will protect it from falls a little more then the old design. The new latch system is BOMBER. Super stoked on it (and its waterproof! New river lamp!! ). I cant tell you how many clips on other headlamps I've broken trying to get to the batteries. The next + is a headlamp that hold 4, yes FOUR batteries. I don't care if it weighs the extreme minute amount more. Its so worth it to not always have that extra battery floating around after putting new ones in and the longer burn time. As far as the light output, its great. I've used mine for x-country skiing and dont have any problems seeing the trail at speed. The one qualm is the light makes a small noise when the spotlight it on and the strap isnt the same as the old version. But, with that said for the money I think this is the best light out there based off of light output, connivence, and durability. And the fact that this company stands behind their products 100%... I would not hesitate to recommend them to any of my friends. Peace!
