Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

  • Concealed inner cord
  • Single push-button release to collapse the pole
  • One-pull, Speed Cone deployment

Speed Cone technology comes from our expertise in avalanche probe design—a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole’s Kevlar® center cord when folded.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Long Term Report Bought Z fold poles 3 years ago. I use them in a professional capacity and these are the best design of poles I have found. HOWEVER you need to be aware that unless BD have changed the design then: The tensioning cord will break due to the way it is attached at the bottom and due to abrasion. The top holding the strap will fracture and come away where the metal pole ends. Both of these issues are fixable, but not in the field. Replace the cord with 100lb plastic coated steel fishing trace and use a U bolt to put the top back on. I expect to have to do some maintenance on my kit but these issues are fixable in the design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect pole for dirt These poles rock. They are light, packable, the design deploys quickly, and the design also eliminates the need for adjustment. K.I.S.S! If you take them with you and do not use them its not like you sacrificed much. Or if you go hunting and harvest a large animal you will be very glad you had such a packable pole inside your pack. Or lets say you go on a trip and packed super light like usual and your trip mates did not and you took some of there stuff to speed up the hiking speed, KAZAM! Pull out your poles and hump the load! Or lets say you are on a trail for a portion then you need to climb some 4th, 5th, or 6th class later, WHAMO! Pack away your poles and climb on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Term Review: Trail Running Have had these poles for over 2 yrs and have put almost 1,000 miles of hard trail running on them. Between the rocks and roots I have abused and beat them up but they are still working like the 1st day I got them. In fact I ran a 50k race on 10/09 and thought I had finally busted one between a couple rocks but I pulled it out and was still good. My only negative is that you have to lube 'em or the AL will oxidize esp. if you sweat a lot. If they do, you may never be able to beak 'em down. Also, I got rid of the wrist straps; too easy to face plant if you get your feet tangled up in a pole and you can't drop 'em fast! lol Think they may be stronger than the carbon fiber ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love these poles My husband and I both purchased these poles and love them. We have used them now in the Olympic National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park and Red River Gorge, KY. They are so light it is not a burden to bring them along, they are compact and easy to deploy/put up while hiking. Good protection from mountain goats on Mt. Elinor adds balance, good at stream crossings and saves the knees on steep up / down terrain. Wish we would have purchased these years ago.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightwieght, Comfortable, Great Price I bought the Distance Z Trekking Poles and have been impressed with them. They are lightweight and collapse very easily into a small bundle. They are accurate to how Black Diamond describes them in performance and use. While hiking down Mount Adams, WA I nearly fell and used the pole to break my fall. One of the poles bent and I was unable to fix it. As far as I remember, Black Diamond assisted me in getting new poles and have continued to have amazing customer service! I would recommend these trekking poles and will be using them on my trek to Everest Base Camp this month (May 2017)!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Z pole carbon fibre Simplicity, comfortability and relaibility are paramount when undertakeing long distance 3 season walks in the UK (The Penine Way, Coast to Coast, West Highland Way etc etc ). Jimmy and I have used numerous different walking pole systems over the past 2 decades in some precarious situations. The z pole system is without question the best on the market. excellent. Well done again black diamond.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional, durable trekking pole I typically use my backcountry ski poles on the few occasions where I want poles when hiking. Heading to Patagonia I knew I'd need poles (Chilean/Argentine trail builders do not build switchbacks), my ski poles are heavy, and don't break down small enough to put inside a pack when flying. These fit the task perfectly. They break down small enough to easily slide inside the pack for flying. Converting to folded or to hike mode is fast and easy. They're light, but stood up to me and my heavy pack on steep downhill that at times felt like US off trail scrambling. They stood the test of inadvertent stuck pole gets levered before freeing up events while hiking. Also took a lot of abuse stowed in an outside pack pocket tossed into bus cargo areas. I'm 6'0" so using the fit guide I went with the 120 cm. Perfect length for the downhill. If I were trail running I might compromise on the length a bit and go with the 110cm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them These poles replaced a very worn out pair of hiking poles, and I LOVE the upgrade. I do not expect much from a pole, but having poles that adjust easily and pack up quickly is appreciated. Especially since I am often leading groups and want something I can adjust quickly for others to use. This has been a significant upgrade for me. I am going to buy more pairs as gifts for my friends.
