Equipped with a fully waterproof construction and an incredibly bright 160 lumens, the Black Diamond Storm is our powerful, all-conditions headlamp. Now featuring our PowerTap Technology, the Storm allows for quick, on-the-fly brightness adjustment with just a finger tap to the side of its touch-sensitive housing. The Storm features a bright, precise beam for after-dark route-finding, as well as proximity, strobe, dimming and red night vision modes to accommodate any lighting needs. An intuitive lock mode also keeps the light from accidentally turning on when stored in your pack or pocket.

  • PowerTap technology allows fast and simple transitioning between full and dimmed power in distance or proximity modes
  • Red night-vision mode has proximity and strobe settings, and activates without cycling through the white mode
  • Sleek, low profile design uses four AAA batteries and three-level power meter shows remaining battery life for three seconds after switching on headlamp
  • Settings include: full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode
  • Protected against water immersion down to 1 m (3.3 ft) for 30 minutes (IPX 7)

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great light I have several lights and needed one that was water proof. Like all the bells and whistles in this. November 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best darn headlamp. Period. This is the best headlamp on the market for this price. The features are awesome - especially the red-light option and the lock to keep it from turning on in your pack. I have 5. Once I had one go bad on me after leaving the batteries in it for a year without use. Black Diamond replaced it no-questions-asked with a new one. No bad things to say - this is the headlamp you want for serious endeavors where ruggedness and high-lumens are necessary. October 30, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Headlamp This is my second Storm Great light, waterproof, dependable. The on/off button on this one is a little tougher to use with gloves October 23, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Battery door blows chuncks This is my second headlamp from Black Diamond. I purchased my first one 3 years ago and the battery door had a thumb screw for opening. After 3 years the battery door broke which I fixed with a little tape. Upon purchase of this unit the manual has no mention of how to open it. After reading other reviews on Black Diamonds website I concluded I would have to open it with a screwdriver and it wasn't easy. Installing batteries was a challenge as well. Please fix this issue on future models. October 14, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed...Returned for a refund I really wish I had tried this in the store before taking it home. A “light” should not need a detailed instruction manual. It should be intuitive and discoverable. This light is certainly not that. I'm sure others will disagree...but in a situation where I need light “now” just needs to work. The user interface is inconsistent. Selecting the main light or the prox light is done through pushing the button once or twice. However, selecting the red light requires a long 3 second push. Would have been more consistent to select the red mode using a triple button push. The real problem is the attempt to do all of this with a single button. A separate button for each mode would be a better approach. Lengthen the elastomer slightly and have two or 3 buttons. I used this light on a weekend kayak trip. This was in preparation for a following larger trip. It worked...but was pretty frustrating. Others may disagree...we're all entitled to an opinion. Think of it this way. In an emergency where I give my light to shouldn't be necessary to tell them how to use it. The light did not get wet on this trip. Fast forward a week to a much more challenging solo kayak trip in the Saguenay Fjord. I goofed...and left too late and ended up arriving after dark. The Storm was in a water proof bag inside my deck bag. So I figured I was all set. I stopped paddling to put it on..and got nothing. I got a nice blinking green LED to tell me my batteries were good...but no light. I've learned to not depend solely on technical stuff like this so I had my Fox 40 waterproof flashlight in the deck bag too. Two AA batteries with an old incandescent bulb. Simple, reliable, and functioal. I couldn't hold it while paddling but it saved me once I finally made shore. I tried locking and unlocking. Blue LED and green LED functioned as expected. Tried replacing the batteries. Same issue. None of the lighting modes would work. I've returned it for a full refund and will be looking at different manufacturers for my replacement. A couple of other comments: - The rear cover needs improved mechanical design. It is not rigid enough. Tightening the thumbscrew causes the door to flex. On my particular unit, with the thumb screw tight, it was NOT waterproof. 30 minutes under 30cm of water (only 30% of the 1m depth rating) allowed 15mg of water ingress. This is based on weighing the light before and after the submersion. It might have performed better with the thumb screw NOT fully tightened. - The “power tap” feature is a cool idea, but it should be called “power touch”. The “power tap” button seems to be a capacitive touch sensor. It requires a bare finger. The name suggests it's based on an accelerometer implying that it can work with a gloved hand by a physical “tap”. Unfortunately this is not the case. -The release tab for the bottom battery needs to be longer. With cold and or wet fingers, it's too small to be gripped. September 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product After researching the many available headlamps I decided to go with the Black Diamond Storm. It seemed rugged, waterproof and above all simple to operate with more than ample light and run time. I know there are many great headlamps available. I feel that I now am the owner of one of the best. The shipping was also extremely fast, a plus! September 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best of the best As part of Locos Mocos (a group that has been running remote pit service for desert races in Baja Mexico and the US for 20 years) I rely on my head light. Our pit can be open for 52 hours. We can turn a head light on an off over 100 times a night. Racers count on us to put their broken vehicles back together. This is one tough environment. Baja tests everything to the breaking point. I just replaced a 10 + year old Black Diamond light with the new Storm. This light is a torch! The controls are super easy to operate even with gloves on. I have see piles of brand X head lights come and go. When I absolutely have to see what I am doing I turn on my Black Diamond. September 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Feels like quality! Great headlamp! Feels burly enough that you don't need to be too careful with it. Also really bright! Love the tapping feature that allows you to dim and brighten with a quick finger tap. August 26, 2015
