Description

Equipped with a fully waterproof construction and an incredibly bright 160 lumens, the Black Diamond Storm is our powerful, all-conditions headlamp. Now featuring our PowerTap Technology, the Storm allows for quick, on-the-fly brightness adjustment with just a finger tap to the side of its touch-sensitive housing. The Storm features a bright, precise beam for after-dark route-finding, as well as proximity, strobe, dimming and red night vision modes to accommodate any lighting needs. An intuitive lock mode also keeps the light from accidentally turning on when stored in your pack or pocket.

  • One QuadPower LED, two SinglePower white LEDs and two SinglePower red LEDs emit 160 lumens (max setting)
  • PowerTap technology allows fast and simple transitioning between full and dimmed power in distance or proximity modes
  • Red night-vision mode has proximity and strobe settings, and activates without cycling through the white mode
  • Sleek, low profile design uses four AAA batteries and three-level power meter shows remaining battery life for three seconds after switching on headlamp
  • Settings include: full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode
  • Protected against water immersion down to 1 m (3.3 ft) for 30 minutes (IPX 7)

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 57 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by It is waterproof I use this canyoneering where I jump in pools and swim all day long. I would say it is a maximum 2 ft depth but I have never had a problem with it not lighting up. June 24, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good headlamp with some minor annoyances Pros: Very bright, especially in the high setting. Easily outshines most other headlamps. "Close Up Mode" is not as bright (saving battery) and is great for working on something right in front of you. Remembers if you are in Red or White mode so you can turn it off and return to the previous mode. Great for waking up in the middle of the night if you like red mode so you don't blind yourself/lose night vision. You can also go straight to red mode from off without having to go through white mode. Great for the same reasons. Waterproof. I haven't had it underwater or anything, but it has held up great in rain, sleet, and snow. Ability to dim. Nice if you are working up close or don't need as much light. Cons: Remembers if you are on red, but it can't remember the previous dim setting! C'mon BD. If it can remember the mode surely it can remember the dim setting. It always defaults to ~70% now. Burns through batteries fairly quick. This could possibly be because I use rechargeables, but I think it's more likely due to the brightness of the lamp. Not much can be done about that. As batteries die the headlamp dims. This is a known feature though. Headlamp strap gets wavy after some use or possible after it gets wet. Kind of annoying. Heavy, but this is simply because it takes 4AAA batteries to produce as much light as it does. This isn't so much a con as it is a fact of engineering. If BD was to fix the issue with the headlamp strap and also allow it to remember the dimness setting I would buy another immediately. Regardless, I recommend this headlamp as-is. June 8, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Awesome. Let me start out by saying the folks over at BD are incredible. Time, for a short story. I adopted a small cache of unwanted hiking gear from a fellow hiker. One piece of said gear was a Storm headlamp. When I finally got around to actually sifting through all of the gear I received, I noticed that the headlamp was not working. A quick exchange of emails with the warranty dept. at BD and a brand new headlamp was on its way. This is why I love this company so much. Awesome customer service! Now the product review. This headlamp is awesome. I love pretty much everything about it. The spot mode on high is great for seeing what that noise was on the other side of the campsite, while on low is great for night hiking. The close proximity mode is perfect for night time reading whether it be a book in the tent or a map on a night hike. Both of these modes are also fully dimmable which is an awesome feature for finding the perfect amount of light for whatever situation you're in. Also, the touch-sensitive side panel for quick dimming adjustability is great. Finally, equipped with red night vision mode to not disturb sleeping tent/shelter mates and keeping your eyes' night vision is great. I love the locking feature so I don't have to worry about the light turning on in my pack and having dead batteries once I reach my campsite in the middle of the dark forest. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5: This light is a tad on the heavy side for backpacking (my main use for it) due to its size and 4 AAA batteries. But if you don't mind the weight, or are using this for car camping or around the house or something like that, this light is incredible!! May 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I now own 2 of these I bought the first one, loved it so much, I ordered a 2nd one. Super bright, lightweight, and easy to use. May 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Head Lamps have come so far! To think about how much more functional, durable, and useable headlamps have become over the last 20 years is unbelievable. Black Diamond leads the pack. Using them to supplement the poor lighting and frequent power outages in Ethiopian Operating Rooms is crucial to a smooth operation! May 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great headlamp for the money. Light dimming is great. Having the ability to have the light anywhere from bright to dim is a good feature. The red light helps in low light situations to preserve night vision. I use this for fishing at night and it has served me well. May 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best hands-free trail lamp that I've ever used Brighter and more dark-penetrating than all of my Petzl headlamps by far! Capable of illuminating a deep-woods board meeting, or a full six-person tent. May 15, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great headlight The light is very bright and not too heavy for running. April 16, 2015
