Rated 5 out of 5 by Scott Great HeadLamp for Search and Rescue Work
I purchased this headlamp for all around use when you really need to be able to see in the darkness of Wilderness Search and Rescue.
This light is wonderful. The small LEDs on the sides provides enough light to see right in front of you to light your immediate area around your feet and saves battery life. Then you turn on the "big" center light and it allows you to see a focused beam of light way in the distance.
Search and Rescue normally is out working in the middle of the night and in all inhospitable conditions. I used this light while serving on missions in the wilderness areas of High Elevations of Taos, NM.
The only downside to this headlamp it has no really good way to keep small and contained in my pack when not in use. It would be great if BD would offer a carry case for it.
I keep an ION in the first aid kit for specialized work and the ICON for Searching. I have used the ICON in sub degree temps, warm summer nights in the high desert as well as the extreme wet during the summer "monsoons". It never failed to meet my needs.

I've had two of these. The single beam failed on the first after a year and it was replaced under warranty. Excellent piece of kit. Agree with review above that it's easily knocked on in your pack. Also, the elastics are now giving up and it's hard to keep it in place. I'd like to put new ones on my Icon but their sewn on and have integral plastic fittings. Shame to bin an otherwise functioning lamp!

This is my 4th Icon headlamp and am very impressed with the improvements. After my last headlamp was damaged on a climb this is the only one I thought of to replace it with!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Steve It's the best of times...and the worst of time.
The lighting of the ICON is fantastic. I like the lower beams and the super long range VERY bright light. It is great for mountain biking, backcountry skiing, mountaineering and trail running. The weight is no big deal.
BIG PROBLEM- It is way to easy to accidentally push the ICON button inside of my packs. 2 times it happened to me and I had no power when I was ready to use it. Not good. Maybe it's a good time to redesign;-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ed Awesome headlamp. I use it daily
Just bought my 2nd one as my old one needs new straps. The old one still works well after years of use and abuse. I can't believe more people don't use headlamps for fun and work. I also use a rechargeable headlamp but the prefer the power of this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mark Great Lamp / Problem Battery Pack
The light is great. I particularly like the warning LED for battery life. Problem with door to battery pack which fouled on batteries and cracked when forced. Note: This review concerns a 2012 model since redesigned. Covered by 3 year warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brad Lit Up The Trail
Used the Icon at the Leadville 100 Trail Run and was very pleased. While its fairly heavy, it's well balanced and allowed me to see every rock in the trail on the technical sections. Psyched to have this piece of gear in my kit for all night expeditions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by frank waterproof is not so great
I went caving in Belize. First day out, first few minutes into the cave we had to pass under a low flowing water fall, immediately the light shut down. Thankfully i had a backup. I discovered that the water went into to the led lights and they shorted. i have since returned this item and await a replacement.
