How To Use The Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice lightweight headlamp. Great features. I did search for a vid so I could learn how to use it. The microscopic paper with instructions which came in the box did not serve me well. I like the headlamp much better now that I can operate it. June 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best headlamp I've ever owned I bought my first Icon headlamp in 2012. I use this light at work (I'm an EMT), for Volunteer Search and Rescue, Canyoneering, and pretty much everything else down to working on my truck or taking out the trash at night. Quite a long battery life even when it's on full power. When it's on full power it's incredibly bright and the other modes are quite useful as well. Great value for the money. The only downside is that the construction could be a bit more rugged, I've actually had two of these headlamps fail on me. The on/off switch stopped working in both cases. BD customer service was very helpful each time and authorized a warranty replacement immediately. Great all-around headlamp and great customer service. I'd buy another one if mine wasn't replaced for free. May 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cool headlamp Full featured, great fit. BRIGHT with nice dimming feature. Lock mode is a must for when stashing in the pack. a great buy. March 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for just about everything. I purchased my wife this headlight for Christmas. It only took one month for me to realize that I needed one as well. The light it casts is terrific. The pattern of light is wide and great for camping chores as well as searching. Fairly light weight and long lasting battery life. February 14, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by It's a Great light, but! I bought this light a few months ago. Everything was great until today. I put new batteries in it and the area on the battery case that has two slots to lock the top on broke. I treated this light like I treat my Zeiss camera lens. I didn't abuse it. The case has a design flaw. It's very plain to see. The area where the latch goes into the slot is too thin. There is nothing wrong with the way the light functions. Its the thin amount of plastic that is holding the battery top on. It's not strong enough to hold the pressure. I use my light daily. I always buy high quality equipment. I looked at how other headlamps were made and none of quality were made with this design. There is too little material to hold the lid on. If the case was made thicker at the top it would be much better. I would re-design the way the case opens & closes. Using a bolt with threads on it would work. The springs inside the case are putting pressure on the top. As you close the top the springs make it difficult to push the top down. As you turn the latch to close it you are pushing against the thin tooth pick like structure that holds the lid on. I'm not the only person that has discovered this flaw in the design. I majored in design and it's very plain to see the problem. Just make the top of the case taller or out of a material that can take the latch pushing up against the slot it is trying to go in with the pressure of the springs inside pushing up on the lid. The light itself is a wonderful light. I truly love the design and the functions of this light. If only the case was made stronger and of a material that wouldn't fall apart so easily. The case will have to be redesigned. I can't imagine having a light with a case that has a thin structure holding it together as this one has. Someone made a critical error when they let this go to manufacturing. February 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Night into day? No, but close. I bought this as a Christmas present for my son, and we immediately put it to use that night snowshoeing at night in the Sierra Nevada near Donner Pass. My immediate reaction was that this light was a man among boys. My second thought was I want one for myself. I have a Storm and the Storm may be more versatile around the campsite and a little night hiking, but if you are doing serious trekking at night, it doesn't compare to the Icon. It's performed well in the cold, and we haven't noticed any issues with battery life. January 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Another Quality Head Lamp From Black Diamond I have been buying Black Diamond Headlamps for longer than I can remember. For those of you who know Black Diamond, clear back to the original Moon Beam. I use their lamps for every application under the sun .. and stars except climbing! I call on mine for work, night activities, camping, fishing, hunting, trouble shooting in tight spaces. The list goes on and on. I'm not the kind of person the goes to the average sports store or box lot to buy something I regard as important as a good well engineered, rugged light that I will depend on for a very long time. I keep them in my truck, tool box, my camera bags, my electronics kit, my office desk, and by the bed for power outages so i can get to the barn and fire up emergency power. i love the innovation that goes into their lights. Each one has had its own character and i use them all. There is nothing like having a light that fits like 2nd nature, and is comfortable for extremely long periods of time, in any position. It can be quickly adjusted to go over headgear in cold or rainy weather which is a huge plus. When I need to switch from a close up wide spread to throwing a solid beam of light out through the woods... these lights will really do it ( with the exception of the little moon beam, it's not designed for that - but you can't beat that one for a great close in light either ) Pictured are some of my other Black Diamond Lights They all have been great lights. One Rugged Light... again and again. January 14, 2014
