Our most versatile belay/rappel device, the Black Diamond ATC-Guide is now even lighter thanks to windows machined through the body. We also enlarged the auto-block release hole to accept a small carabiner. Multiple friction modes provide the optimal amount of stopping power when lowering or rappelling, and the device's guide mode lets you belay one or two seconding climbers off an anchor.

  • Multiple friction modes for belay and rappel
  • Machined windows through device for weight savings
  • Guide mode works with one or two climbers ascending or descending
  • Auto-block release hole enlarged to accept a small carabiner
  • Durable cable holds its shape and resists getting caught between ropes
  • Hot-forged construction
  • Handles ropes from 7.7 mm to 11 mm

Rated 5 out of 5 by just about perfect. Used this for years and have always loved it. The autolock is great. Haven't found anything better. January 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My go-to device that brings me and my partner closer! ;) I have used the ATC Guide for several seasons. It is super easy to use, and works great. Lowering a second can be tricky, but with practice you can manage. I think I will get another soon, as my first one is starting to wear (which is a good thing)! Great product! January 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simple and Solid Does it get any more reliable than this? I don't think so. Simple and solid. That's what I look for in most of my purchases and the BD ATC-guide definitely qualifies. My go-to for trad climbing, ice climbing, and glacier rescue scenarios. Best value on the market IMO. Rated 5 out of 5 by My belay device This is the belay device I use for any climbing I do. It is great for multi-pitch climbing. The auto-block hole use to be too small, but now they seem to have ajust this issue. November 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Must have. I recently started climbing and looking around at other peoples gear and starting to build up a rack... this was the only thing I saw out there. After climbing for a few months and using this to rappel and belay, I can say that its definitely worth its weight in gold. Haven't had any trouble braking or using it to belay on my first couple of leads! Overall great product and a must have for any climber. July 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Versatile device Great device with several must have features, great for belaying second from top of pitch and awesome as an auto lock device for crevasse rescue. July 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent device for mulit-pitch This is a great device to belay a second. I've had the pleasure of using it to do everything from hauling, rappelling, lowering, in plaquette mode, and atc mode. It is very versatile. I would highly recommend this to any climber wanting to move from top roping to lead climbing and cleaning routes. 5-star May 21, 2014
