Our best all-around crampon, the Sabretooth features a lightweight stainless steel design and versatile horizontal frontpoints. Available in a Pro or Clip version. Learn More

Equally at home in the Tetons as Chamonix, the Black Diamond Sabretooth crampon is our best all-around crampon for everything from moderate ice routes to big alpine faces. The Sabretooth's horizontal frontpoints provide secure bite on snow, alpine ice and rock edges, while the technical secondary points create a stable platform in softer conditions with more technical precision than the Serac. Serrated sub-points grab and hold when you're rocking over your feet. The Sabretooth's light, durable stainless steel construction won't rust, resists snow balling underfoot and is free from toxic coatings that can wear off in the mountains.

  • Distinctive stainless steel construction doesn't rust, is more durable, resists snow balling and saves weight
  • Versatile horizontal frontpoints and more technical secondary points
  • Low-profile micro-adjust heel bail with two positions
  • Pro version accommodates boots with a toe welt
  • Clip version features flexible toe strap for boots without a toe welt
  • Includes dual-density ABS

PRO: Our most secure and adjustable system featuring a full step-in design for rigid-sole boots with both a toe and heel welt.
CLIP: A hybrid system with a toe strap and rear heel bail, designed for appropriate boots with a heel welt.
STRAP: Flexible toe and heel attachments for use with approach shoes or non-technical mountain boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product I bought a pair of Pros for climbing and skiing 14ers in Colorado. Plans changed, and I had to buy a pair of Clips for Mountaineering in the Alps. Both are excellent products, although it would have been great to only buy one pair, I'm confident they will both be used for many years to come. Thanks BD! April 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing All-purpose crampon Low angle ice, mod. ice, steep ice, mixed, glacier, mountaineering, sabretooth crampons excel at everything. My first crampons and still me number one choice for mountaineering and soft ice. Truly the only crampons i'll ever need, but I wanted stingers too. Ha! Handed them to my girlfriend, a pretty new ice climber, she followed WI3/4 and felt confident enough to solo a WI2 step. These are excellent, highly durable and versatile crampons. April 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Standard Ultra durable, reliable, and functional. My go-to choice for mountaineering crampons. March 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to use, and tough In my opinion, Crampons should pass two major tests: Toughness and ease of use. These pass both and perform well. Not much else to it. January 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid Performer I've had every iteration of the Sabretooth Crampon and they keep improving on what I thought was perfect.... December 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by They work... My first pair of crampons and mounted to some Scarpa Mont Blanc GTX for Hyalite Canyon ice climbing. I love the crampons and will be buying another pair of BD crampons for my wife. I might get the Cyborg with the replaceable front points in the event that we really get into ice climbing. These worked very, very well on icy approaches and climbing multi-pitch WI3&4, as well as a mixed rock/ice route. I was sort of out of control a bit on the mixed route and kept fearing that I would break a point off from stabbing and floundering at the rock...but they held up. I'm very impressed. Rated 5 out of 5 by A great all-rounder If you are looking for a great all-round crampon, then this one is it. The Sabretooth does it all; steep alpine faces, waterfall ice, 8000 meters, and days at the ice park. A bit aggressive and heavier for mountaineering, but if you aren't a fan of being limited by your equipment no matter where you go, go with the Sabretooth. August 28, 2013
