How To Use The Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good illumination Very bright and adjustable light. Like the red light for use in working search dogs at night (doesn't interfere with night vision). But it is heavy. In very cold weather, I prefer a battery pack that can be warmed inside a jacket. Has a limited forward tilt range. Needs a higher profile switch you can feel while wearing gloves. Crown (top) strap should be longer for use on a helmet. December 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This company makes great products I bought my 1st light many years ago, sent it in for repair and received a new light free! When I lost that one i didn't even look at another brand, not to mention the light is easy to use, has spotlight, dim, strobe and red not to mention you can adjust the intensity of the light December 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by ...sounds good but no charger? I suppose this is where I need to go...but I mourn the loss of my lost Black Diamond with the battery pack on the headband that I could charge. I don't climb or ski, but I suppose I trek and hike after sheep or cows, fix fence and sew-up livestock, or shear creek soaked sheep, lamb-out a ewe or just do is every day or/and night and not having the charger option is going to be real inconvenient. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great features! Everything I expected & more. Fantastic headlamp! Plan to buy one for my wife so I can get mine back! Head & shoulders above anything else out there. Absolutely love it!!! December 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great HeadLamp for Search and Rescue Work I purchased this headlamp for all around use when you really need to be able to see in the darkness of Wilderness Search and Rescue. This light is wonderful. The small LEDs on the sides provides enough light to see right in front of you to light your immediate area around your feet and saves battery life. Then you turn on the "big" center light and it allows you to see a focused beam of light way in the distance. Search and Rescue normally is out working in the middle of the night and in all inhospitable conditions. I used this light while serving on missions in the wilderness areas of High Elevations of Taos, NM. The only downside to this headlamp it has no really good way to keep small and contained in my pack when not in use. It would be great if BD would offer a carry case for it. I keep an ION in the first aid kit for specialized work and the ICON for Searching. I have used the ICON in sub degree temps, warm summer nights in the high desert as well as the extreme wet during the summer "monsoons". It never failed to meet my needs. Highly recommend November 7, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Reliable Night Friend I've had two of these. The single beam failed on the first after a year and it was replaced under warranty. Excellent piece of kit. Agree with review above that it's easily knocked on in your pack. Also, the elastics are now giving up and it's hard to keep it in place. I'd like to put new ones on my Icon but their sewn on and have integral plastic fittings. Shame to bin an otherwise functioning lamp! November 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by An essential piece of equipment for your travels This is my 4th Icon headlamp and am very impressed with the improvements. After my last headlamp was damaged on a climb this is the only one I thought of to replace it with!! October 21, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by It's the best of times...and the worst of time. The lighting of the ICON is fantastic. I like the lower beams and the super long range VERY bright light. It is great for mountain biking, backcountry skiing, mountaineering and trail running. The weight is no big deal. BIG PROBLEM- It is way to easy to accidentally push the ICON button inside of my packs. 2 times it happened to me and I had no power when I was ready to use it. Not good. Maybe it's a good time to redesign;-) October 16, 2014
