As the daughter of world-recognized mountaineers, Carlos Carsolio and Elsa Ávila, Karina’s early childhood was spent in the mountains surrounding Mexico City, since then her whole life has taken place in the mountains. She grew up in the small town of Valle de Bravo, where she practiced many different outdoor sports. She started running competitively at 19 years old, achieving many podium national places during her first years of sports career. However she was immersed in med school and it wasn’t until 2021 that she started competing internationally, since then she has been able to achieve multiple podium positions in the worlds’ most prestiged skyrunning races.
Even though right now Karina is focused on competing, she’s also a general physician, working primarily with women in sports, helping them with nutrition to have a healthy physiology for optimal performance.
Her love for nature and mountains has also led her to be involved in a diversity of projects for the environment, including the construction of dry toilets in multiple national parks, agroforestry projects in her hometown and eco-activism.

I love the distance Carbon Z Running Poles!! Easy to pack, foldable, lightweight and made from recyclable materials!!
The Black Diamond Distance 4 hydration vest is always in my luggage for racing and training!! Really comfortable, doesn’t bounce around at all, and it has enough space to fit everything you need for a skyrunning (or trail) race!! Amazing system for storing poles, just enough pockets and space for nutrition and anything else you might need for those mid distance races or projects.
