WHY ACTIVE suspension?

WHY ACTIVE suspension?

Black Diamond packs built with our award-winning active suspension systems—ergoACTIV, ergoACTIV XP, reACTIV and reACTIV XP—are unparalleled in comfort, efficiency and load transfer. Because the shoulder straps and hipbelt move with you, friction and hot spots are eliminated. The pack’s load stays perfectly balanced at all times—without adjustment—and allows your body to move naturally in any direction. This results in a more efficient, comfortable, longer stride—meaning you can cover more ground, more quickly.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great pack! I used this pack for a winter ascent on Mt Whitney along the mountaineers route. It was large enough to pack everything I needed and stripped down and compressed great for the final summit. The ice tool attachment points were quick and secure. Rough granite can eat up lesser packs but the speed 55 is rugged enough for the job. Excellent pack for the money! February 28, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pretty Good Great basic climbing pack. I use it for personal alpine climbing and mountain rescue. It has space for both uses, and manages weight better than I would have thought. On one mission I came back with a wet 60m rope, rescue equipment, and all my personal climbing gear and it carried the weight (~50lbs) fairly well. Major con so far is that they axe/ice tool attachment is pretty worthless when the draw cord freezes up... which happens quite a bit in the Pacific Northwest alpine environment. Looks like they changed this design for the 2014 version. Otherwise I've been happy with it so far. February 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Almost perfect ice climbing pack I really like this pack. Sleek profile, holds up well against rock and ice, and holds a ton of gear. The Ice-link keeps your tools secure. My only complaint is that if you're going to use it for ice there is not a great place to carry your crampons. The crampon bikini add on is a bit too small to confidently carry them. I like this pack enough that I bought the Speed 30 because I found that I had a lot of empty space in my pack. November 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent performer! I took this pack to Smith Rock climbing last week, carried the heavy load of trad gear, food and storm gear. I wore this while climbing a sweet three pitch climb "Super Slab" and it moved with every climbing move as if it was apart of my body. Awesome gear! October 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Alpine Climbing Pack For the last two years I have taken this pack to Pakistan on climbing expeditions (Hispar Sar and Husche Valley). It climbs well, carries comfortably and roomy enough for a 5-7 day assault. The ice axe loops are sub-par, but it really doesn't effect the strong performance. I use this all winter ice-climbing too.
