Description

Combining maximum security and ease of use like never before, the Black Diamond Magnetron Rocklock uses the power of magnets to reinvent the auto-locking carabiner. Magnetron Technology uses two magnetic arms in the gate and a steel insert in the carabiner's keylock nose to create an ultra-secure, self-clearing and redundant locking mechanism that can easily be used with either hand. Our classic RockLock shape is ideal for belaying, making anchors or rappelling, and its keylock nose prevents snagging on slings and ropes.

  • Innovative gate design uses two magnetic arms in the gate and a steel insert in the nose for super-secure, interference-free closure
  • Keylock nose prevents snagging
  • One-hand operable
  • Square hinge end helps hold belay loop securely in place
  • Slightly curved spine maximizes gate opening
Hot Forging vs. Cold Forging

HOT FORGING VS. COLD FORGING

We use two different forging methods to build carabiners—hot and cold forging. Each has its benefits and using both allows us to achieve the best possible shape, size and strength for each carabiner’s intended use. HOT FORGING, a process where both the rod stock and forge dies are heated, allows us to “move” the metal, creating more intricate shapes, such as our GridLock and Oz biners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Simple, easy to use but takes some getting used to This Biner is great! It's a bit tricky to get used to but once you have got it down it's the best Biner you can get! April 1, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for rock, difficult for ice/alpine I learned to love this for rock. It requires aligning two fingers to the trigger, but a little practice made if feel natural. And VERY secure. For ice, however, it's a bit more difficult with gloves. Gloves don't have the feel or dexterity to locate the trigger easily (a "button" on each side of the gate). For applications with gloves, I'll use a rotating autolock, which doesn't require quite the precision. January 24, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome carabiner for arborist. I am a professional arborist, and in our industry we must follow a set of standards. Which this carabiner meets well. I really enjoy the bell size for applying different components of a climbing system both ddrt and srt. Now when they make a oval edition of this it will be epic!! climb safe and look forward to more innovation!! Cheers!! December 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Product Magnetron is truly a step forward in auto-locking carabiners. Anyone who has used other auto-lockers and sees my Magnetron is amazed at how well it works. I've had mine for about six months and it seems to hold up just as well as any other carabiner. Ease of use and functionality definitely make it worth the higher price. I highly recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 by very nice I like the shape, action and color of my magnetron rocklock carabiner. I wish the anodization was much thicker and durable. The anodization on mine has worn off where the rope rubs the carabiner in only one day of climbing consisting of climbing and repelling 4 pitches. So I am concerned about the durability. Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect for the right applications The Magnetron does clipping well. The gate handles very nicely & smoothly. It is fast to clip and unclip. The Rocklock body is hardy, smooth, & proven. I like it for belaying, rappels- in general, for clipping in to a system. However, I am apprehensive about its ability to take a beating. Do not get me wrong- the Magnetron is not flimsy. But I do not anticipate the gate will be able to hold up to the kind of hard abuse a basic screwlock can withstand for years, bashing against the rock. So, for the right uses, Magnetron is great. Just pick your applications thoughtfully. October 3, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not recommended for canyoneering I purchased this carabiner because I thought it would be simple to use and I wouldn't have to worry about my gate freezing up. I've gone through many screwgate carabiners and know the pain of having them seize up. The magnetron works great for climbing and for belay but don't get this carabiner dirty and do not bump it against anything. I've taken this carabiner through some of the best and most difficult canyons in Utah and it does not like these things. I've had it freeze up on me at least twice now. I push the sides to open it and nothing happens. I tap the gate to try and get things to loosen up and nothing. I'm not saying this is a bad carabiner because it isn't. It just wasn't designed for canyoneering. So, if that's your pleasure, then I would strongly advise against this one. Thanks. October 3, 2013
