Questions
Describe your climbing
background?
I basically became addicted to vertical adventure
in Yosemite, and ended up working in the
Mountain Shop for five summers in a row,
living in Yosemite for so long, well that
says it. My climbing enthusiasm has evolved
into major expeditions around the world to
seek out and climb first ascents on untouched,
unseen big walls. I have traveled to all
the continents following this passion and
obsession, some of my favorite places are
Antarctica, Greenland, China, Venezuela,
Russia, Papua New Guinea, Madagascar, Baffin
Island, wait a minute, I could just keep
writing and writing here, they are all my
favorites in some way or another. My ultimate
obsession and passion is going on these expeditions
alone and to climb and endure the expeditions
solo. The time is now!
Was there a big breakthrough or defining
moment for you?
On my first expedition to Baffin Island,
the organic enthusiasm for expeditions
took over my complete being.
Since then, over ten years ago, I have
gone on at least two-to-three expeditions
a year. Dream Big and Climb Those Dreams!
What do you do when your not climbing?
Make sure my daughter has the most amazing
life as possible: I am a soccer coach,
I take my daughter to swimming lessons,
piano lessons, violin lessons, volunteer
at her school, teach her how to ski,
teach her about life, values, morals,
and education. I am an amazing, committed
father and want her to learn that if
you have a dream you can make that dream
reality. Teaching my daughter reading,
math, and millions of things about life
is my ultimate priority. Of course playing
princesses and painting nails is something
not to be missed! I recently won the
"Father of the Year Award" at her school,
which I have to say, blows away standing
on any virgin summit!
Any training advice or suggestions?
It is all about belief, not 99%, but 100%.
It is quite simple, we all have to simply
choose sweet choices.
Who or what inspires you?
My daughter teaches me and inspires me
every day in the most magical ways.
Bob Marley has a message we all need to
hear. Al Gore is in there some where. For
climbing, I have to send out the sweetness
to Peter Croft.
Any thing that really irks you in the
mountains?
Not being in them.
What's playing in your stereo/iPod/head
right now?
Many gigs of bluegrass.
What book are you reading right now or
read that you liked?
James A. Michener is amazing, try his books
like Alaska and Hawaii, his style is pretty
amazing.
Many different books from all walks of
life always.
Favorite place to climb and with whom?
Virgin, remote Earth, either solo or with
best friends.
What are your future plans or goals in
climbing?
To continue to find untouched, unseen,
world class walls and mountains, and stand
on their tops.
Anyone you would like to thank?
My daughter. My family and friends. All
of the supporters and sponsors that help
me make this lifestyle a reality. The
mother of my daughter.
