Questions
Describe your climbing
background?
Ummm, where do I begin? I've been climbing
for...forever, basically.
I've dabbled in other things, and even taken
a couple of years away
from climbing, but it's basically been my
life and all I've known
since I was 13. I started climbing in the
Red River Gorge, and would
boulder in the gym after school, then sport
climb outdoors on the
weekends. I spent a lot of time sport climbing
and competing in
Europe. I went to school for a couple of
years and climbed probably
two-three times a year. When I started climbing
a lot again it was
mainly in Eldorado Canyon, where I got into
traditional climbing. Now
I live in Moab off and on and spend probably
80% of my time trad
climbing.
Was there a big breakthrough or defining
moment for you?
I think there are many moments for everyone,
whether they be big or
small, that define and shape us as we constatly
change and grow.
What do you do when you're
not climbing?
Working. Gotta pay those bills. :) Right
now I work part-time for
Momentum Video Magazine, and I'm also finishing
up my instructional
book for women called Girl on the Rocks.
Any training advice or suggestions?
Stop when you're no longer psyched. If
you're not having fun anymore,
then you're not going to get stronger,
no matter how hard you train.
Who or what inspires you?
I'm usually the most inspired when I'm
in a beautiful place, climbing
beautiful rock, with amazing surroundings
and good friends.
Any thing that really irks you in the
mountains?
I try to avoid mountains. Being cold isn't
my thing.
What's playing in your stereo/iPod/head
right now?
Shuffle...
What book are you reading right now or
read that you liked?
The last book I listened to was Atonement.
What are your future plans or goals in
climbing?
That's for me to know and you to find out.
Anyone you would like to give a shout
out to, who's helped you out along the
way?
Yes!! Lisa Hathaway has definitely taken
me under her wing on many
occasions. Around Moab she's known as "the
buoy in the roiling seas of
life."
