Questions
Describe your skiing background?
I was born and raised in Aspen, Colorado
where skiing is part of life. Racing Alpine and Nordic
formed the
foundation and skills I use for freeskiing today. I took
up snowboarding for a couple of my teen age years
and then went back to my roots as a skier. Telemarkingbecame
the most efficient way to access the
backcountry throughout college, and I have stuck with
it ever since.
Was there a big breakthrough or defining moment
for you?
Winning the Alpine Meadows Tele Comp in 2006 when
I
least expected it! I had never competed and was
pretty
clueless... It was great inspiration to focus further
on my love for Telemarking.
What do you do when your not skiing?
In the summer I love to be on the river in my kayak,
especially long wild river trips! Backpacking,
mountain biking... I write, day dream, do
silverwork/jewelry, and collect books that I will
read
someday...
Any training advice or suggestions?
Lead an active every-day life and it will keep
you
sane, healthy, happy and strong. And remember to
breathe and stretch.
Who or what inspires you?
Dolores LaChapelle. The first woman powder skier
who
said, "To ski powder well, you must turn
yourself over
to the snow." One of her many great quotes.
Each of my
visits with her in Silverton were like an encounter
with a human encyclopedia dedicated to mountains,
snow
and our connection to it all.
Any thing that really irks you in the mountains,
backcountry, ski
hill?
Nothing much... Just people who are out there without
the knowledge they should have about backcountry
and
wilderness safety, as well as respect. Snowmobiles
only belong in certain places!
What's playing in your stereo / ipod / head right
now?
Theivery Corporation... it's good music for chilling
out...
What book are you reading right now or read that
you liked?
BLINK. Its about trusting your first gut instinct
when
making decisions.
Seinfeld or Simpsons?
Anything on TV hypnotizes me because I grew up
without
one. I think I'm partially allergic!
What are your future plans or goals in skiing?
I'd like to travel and ski in other countries.
Expedition trips have always been a dream. I also
want
to see where I can take the sport of Telemarking
for
females in the competition world. The IFSA comps
are
new to me this year. I want to see what can be
learned
by doing them and obtaining the right mentality
and
focus in order to excell as a female telemarker
in the
Alpine world. I just want to keep my passion for
skiing and the outdoors alive because that will
lead
to the best things.
Favorite place to ski and why?
Besides Aspen Mountain and Highlands bowl, which
are
home, any place with powder and crazy long surface
hoar. It is so amazing to ski over!
Favorite people to ski with and why?
My dad who taught me to be light on my feet,
and all the kids Will and I grew up with because
when we get out there we are all in our element
individually and as a group. Skiing together
is something that was fun when we were 5 and
will never change no matter how old we become.
