The lightest, most breathable and most comfortable climbing helmet we’ve ever made, the Vapor provides reliable, ultralight protection. Learn More

Providing ultralight, low-profile protection, unparalleled ventilation and a secure and super-comfortable fit, the Black Diamond Vapor helmet is a go-anywhere cragging lid that proves helmets aren't just for multi-pitch trad climbs and big alpine faces. We engineered a sheet of Kevlar and a series of carbon rods in between co-molded EPS foam and a polycarbonate shell to keep the weight at a minimum while keeping you protected. The Vapor's ratcheting suspension tucks into the helmet for compact storage in your pack or haul bag, and removable headlamp clips secure your light on pre-dawn starts or when rapping after dark.

  • Co-molded EPS foam with polycarbonate shell is lower profile than the Vector
  • Geometric, open-air design provides unparalleled airflow
  • Ratchet adjuster with molded push buttons
  • Headlamp clips are removable for reduced snagging on slings and clothing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this soley on the reviews I am a woman that hates high profile helmets. I started climbing with an Ecrin Roc years ago... ... have been using a BD Half Dome and hated the fit. The Vapor is what girls want! Great ventilation. Huge and comfortable size adjustability. Soft webbing feel on the chin strap. I can easily slip my pony-tail between the helmet and occipital strap that sits at the base of the skull. Good job BD. Spend the extra bucks and get this helmet. Like everyone else, I forget its on my head. I will wear it all day, which is great because I am usually busy teaching others, so I can naturally rolemodel one more safe practice in climbing at no inconvenience of comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent buy A cycling helmet of these materials retails for double this price, so you're not necessarily getting gouged in the grand relative scheme, but it still is a pricey helmet in the climbing world. super duper light. super duper comfortable. super duper low profile. super duper cool (temps and the chyll-brah-bro factor, which is why you wear a helmet, obviously). Dings up easily. Maybe it's cause it feels so light and minimal, but it seems to be as delicate as a flower. If you want a helmet to toss about in your bag, buy the hardshell protection, cause this will get shredded under those conditions.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very light, one fit and one design issue Finally upgrading from my ancient but much beloved Ecrin Roc. This Vapor helmet is outrageously light. It feels good when on my head but I wish I could fine tune the straps that encircle my ears to dial in the fit on my head. Secondly, when coiling a rope over my shoulders or when wearing more bulky clothing, I have had the rope and clothing snag the tightening system and either tighten or, more often, loosen the helmet. Seems to me a poor design to have the cinching system able to be snagged by random things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only helmet I wear when weight matters This helmet is simply astounding how light and comfortable it is. I've even slept in it when bivying on a route! Kudos to BD for making an amazing helmet in TWO SIZES! Yes, those of use with larger heads no longer have to settle for goofy helmets that don't fit properly! It does get a bit banged up through regular use (i.e., if you bump a rock, it will likely leave a small cosmetic impression on the helmet). But it is really not a big deal at all. I personally save the wear and tear on this helmet for when it matters, and use a second hard sided helmet for when it doesn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helium head I've had a Half Dome forever, but wanted something lighter. Opted for the Vapor over the Vector in the middle of a 100 degree spell here in Utah. Happy with the purchase, even though it was a little more $$. It's airier than anything I've worn in the past, ridiculously light, and very easy to adjust into a comfortable fit. I use it for canopy work and was a little worried it wouldn't stand up to constant knocks, whacks and scrapes from branches. Not an issue, though I wouldn't recommend absently hucking it down on rocks after taking it off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved My Life I feel/rolled ~50' down a 5.5 gully. I took a blow directly to the head. The helmet was split in half but it saved my life. I surely would not be here had I not be wearing one and wonder what might have happened had I been wearing a cheaper suspension style helmet rather than one designed more like a bike helmet to dampen the force of one big hit. Hard to endorse it anymore than that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly lite weight helmet! I have been wearing ice and rock climbing helmets since the late 1970's...most of them were heavy, uncomfortable and hard to fit. The Vapor helmets are the opposite. I can quickly adjust the helmets so I can even wear my baseball cap under the helmet then quickly readjust if I take off my ball cap. The breath ability is great, looks like it will cover the top of my head..if/when it will withstand rocks hitting in the head. The best products are invisible and I never need to think about it. Vapor helmets are a must!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet lid! This is by far the most comfortable climbing helmet I've used to date. It is intended to be a super light, breathable, lower profile lid that you don't mind wearing. I found all of these claims to be true. It is not going to be as durable as some other hard plastic lids, which is why I kept my plastic helmet for winter. That being said, The Vapor survived a week of Red Rock multi-pitch routes with just a few scuffs and nicks. Head never felt hot and harness system is first class. Brilliant piece, meets all expectations.
