Versatile, affordable and super packable thanks to Z-Pole technology, the Distance holds up to nearly any day on the trail. Learn More

From trail runs and day trips to backpacking and thru-hiking, the Black Diamond Distance trekking pole is versatile enough to go the distance on any trail, no matter the length. All aluminum construction lends durability on the trail and our innovative Z-Pole technology-with a coated inner cord and speed cones-makes transitioning the Distance from packed to deployed a matter of mere seconds. EVA foam grips and breathable straps wick away sweat, and non-slip, mini grip extensions allows for quick choke-ups on steep uphill sections. Interchangeable rubber and carbide Tech Tips can be easily swapped out for different trail surfaces.

  • Durable aluminum construction
  • Three-section Z-Pole folding design with speed cone deployment
  • Lightweight EVA foam grip with breathable, moisture-wicking strap
  • Non-slip foam mini-grip extension for secure choke ups
  • Includes interchangeable, non-marking rubber Tech Tips and carbide Tech Tips
  • Stopper basket with shaft catcher secures folding sections
  • NOTE: 3-season Z-Poles do not accept, or have fittings for snow or powder baskets

Our Z-Pole Technology was born from our expertise in avalanche probes—by using a three-section shaft, a concealed inner Kevlar cord and innovative speed cones, our collapsible Z-Poles snap into place and lock with a single pull.

When not in use, a single push button releases the pole for compact storage.

How To Video: Black Diamond Z-Poles

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by They put something in a pole they didn't even know. . I blew out my shoulder in June. After two surgeries and still in physical therapy and have many months left, I was told to learn to"improvise", because I would never be at 100% again. That's not acceptable in my book. My balance was off, needed to build strength and keep on hiking. ..that's where the Black Diamond Poles came in, all I can say is thank you. They let me continue to hike, they are light enough to not be bothersome yet strong enough to let my mind relax and know I'm not going to tweak my shoulder. I can hike. They are very strong. They are helping me build strength and confidence. Black Diamond didn't know they put THAT in a pole. March 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Poles I am currently on my second set of BD Distance trekking poles (lost my first set .... think I left them at the trail head?) These poles are amazing! I am kind of different from most people in how I use them though. I rely less on them for the uphills and more for stability on bombing the downhills. As such, on my second pair, I went up a size for the longer length to be used downhill at speed. I have used these to catapult myself over obstacles like trees or boulders, to change direction midair when I realize the footing of my landing is less than ideal, to nail hairpin switchbacks at speed and overall just to make my run more stable. They have saved me from catastrophic falls more times than I can count (over 30 in a single 50k race in which I was counting and MANY more when I wasn't) and to make them even more perfect, they are so lightweight and compact that when I am NOT using them, they practically disappear in my pack. I absolutely love these poles and will continue to use them for as long as I am running. January 17, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by achilles heel - wrist strap I use poles for trekking, climbing and very rough trail running. It was time for a new set and I needed a pole that would have a shorter overall length when folded/compressed and would redeploy quickly. The Z-pole was the perfect fit for me, and I have been quite happy with the pole's performance. However, I was very disappointed when on my first fall with these poles the wrist strap snapped in half. Not a particularly spectacular fall either, just a stumble at walking speed. I have had pole snapping falls on hard downhill running when planting the pole to quickly change directions. So yes I am hard on poles and regularly push design limits, but this was not an acceptable failure on a walking stumble. I am ordering a replacement strap and will live with the poles for now because they fit the strength, size and speed requirements so well. There you go, great pole - but the wrist strap, I think a little too much weight was saved is the kindest thing I can say. May 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Quality looked good. We have not had a chance to use the item as of yet but will respond again after I give them the old Colorado,New Mexico and Utah treatment. March 2, 2014
