Rated 5 out of 5 by Brian This shovel is compact, as light as i have found and moves snow efficiently.
This shovel is the best shovel I have used. It is compact and easy to travel in the back county or climbing. It is easy to extend into a functional position. The 7 has a broad scoop to move snow efficiently to level off your tent base, or to rapidly dig a snow cave. It is durable under extreme conditions.
This shovel is a very nice addition to my winter equipment. It is the finest shovel I found for my back county winter excursions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Steve Excellent compact shovel
The deploy shovel is great for digging out snow caves with its short handle and rugged design. Folds up nice and tight to fit in your pack and doesn't take up much space. The handle can be deployed quickly and there is little to no deflection of the blade when under a load. I haven't had to use it an avalanche situation and let's hope I never have to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Greg Robust, folds small - good all year
The deploy shovel folds very tightly, and when you need to get it out of your pack, there's only which piece to find. That's great.
Although it's almost new, I can report it looks reasonably robust and well made.
I've already made a small modification. I cut off 2 slots (approx. 20 x 7 mm) in the shovel, so I can use it as a snow anchor by 'sticking' a double length sling through the slots.
If you do it too, remember the orientate the shovel correctly in the snow. Naturally, most people use the snow anchors the 'wrong' way. BD, if you add the slots in your next gen shovel, please make sure you print somewhere on the shovel how the orientate it in the snow.
