Description

Our original big-mountain powder slayer, the completely redesigned Black Diamond Megawatt returns with a host of tweaks that add much-improved stability and versatility on hard snow while retaining the unsinkable, playful performance in soft snow that skiers have come to love. We stiffened the rockered tip and lengthened the edge contact, and a tighter turn radius now allows effortless turns of any shape, at any speed.

  • 125 mm waist with a stiffer tip and shifted-back wide point for improved turnability and hard-snow performance
  • Rocker tip and Semi-Rocker tail for surfy balance in any snow conditions
  • More forgiving and nimble than the Gigawatt
  • Poplar and birch Internal Wall Core Technology for added pop and stability
  • Formula One Technology with three ribs and Torsion Box Construction for maximum torsional stiffness
  • Optimal use: 80% soft snow / 20% hard snow

ROCKER PROFILE

ROCKER PROFILE

Rocker has moved from a niche, powder-specific design to a versatile tool that allows for easy turn initiation, smooth turn release and agile turn-shape variation in any condition. By tuning the rise and length of tip and tail rocker to each ski’s intended use, we’re able to dial in the exact character we want—from deep-snow specialists to hybrid fun-shapes. We have grouped our rockered ski profiles into three categories—Rocker, Semi-Rocker and Traditional based on the tip or tail’s rise length.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Floats in powder and carves up groomed The megawatt is more versital than I expected, as it rails nice turns on groomed terrain as well as floating nicely in the deep and chop. I really like how the tip behaves and allows for controlled steering during the turn. You can run this ski around with varied turns and quick edge changes. I was surprised how nimble it felt under foot in the 188 size. I look forward to seeing how it behaves in the bottomless at some point. It is my favorite free skiing set up (with the NTN freeride) compared to the zealot and amperage. Although those have unique qualities too! (I'm 6' and 195lbs with the work vest on) December 26, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Big Mountain Versatility The Megawatt is a big ski that offers excellent performance when you get back to the groomers. I have these mounted with performance alpine bindings and would stack them up against anything the euro stalwarts offer. May 14, 2013
