How-to Video: Fitting Black Diamond Gloves and Mitts

Rated 1 out of 5 by Not up to par I originally purchased the previous model. They offered great dexterity and fit. However, the inner liner separated from the seam. Black diamond warrantied these and sent me the updated model last year. The updated model is a complete redesign. The sad part is I absolutely hate the new glove and cannot recommend it to anyone. Looking at their marketing they fall short in dexterity, warmth and strength. Here's why: These gloves are over filled with insulation. Bulk insulation is across the top of the hand, especially towards the outside. This does not allow for proper air circulation within the glove. If that wasn't bad enough, the overall fit is on the small side. I am size 9 (glove) and these fit more like an 8 (ok an 8.5). My fingers reach the end of the glove. You would think this is great for dexterity but the fingers are way to short to offer this. Again, the big issue is that they don't allow for air to circulate around the ends of my fingers, causing cold hands. This is glove fit 101; fit is the key to warmth. Lastly the leather on the bottom has already ripped after one season. I'm not hard on these either. They saw about a two months of actual winter use. I still had 4 months of MN and Nd winter left. I recently started looking for replacements. I noticed my local dealer had the Virago out on their shelf. It seems they have trimmed the insulation this year, fixing some of the issues above. However, that doesn't help me any. (Idk for sure just basing off a side by side comparison). Because of the pitfalls in design and construction I will be looking for alternative options for replacement. -Bummed. November 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tough gloves, careful when sizing These have been a good glove so far. They're tough and keep out water and snow very well while keeping your hands warm. But the sizing chart/system seems way out. When measuring your hands, use the method on the website but then go one size up. Mine literally 'fit like a glove' but in a ski glove i find it's better to have a bit more room. The leather stretches a little after some use, but I should've gone for one size larger. Some treatment with a glove conditioner on the leather will help make them last a lot longer. October 8, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by virago men medium, very disappointed the good, leather is very good quality, glove looks cool, now the bad, sizing is way off,on the small side,my hand measurement are 8 5/8 width, 7 1/8 length for the right,8 11/16 W, 7 1/4 L for the left. Left glove way bigger than the right one, stitching on the fingers is uneven. But the worst part is that they are not warm,I mean 20 mn outside in 5 deg F -15 c, my hands were cold, and I mean cold. extremely dissapointed. February 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by My son-in-law loved the fit of these gloves. I did not use the product, but my son-in-law loved them. They took a trip to Utah and the gloves worked like a charm. He said they kept his hand so warm, and were very flexible to use while skiing. January 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best gloves I've ever owned. I bought the virago glove at the beginning of the ski season and used them almost every day through the winter (ski team). These surpassed my expectations, they were completely dry even though we had an exceptionally wet season in MN (one or two days we skied in the rain). The leather and what ever the rest of it is made of has held up well through heavy wear. Bottom line, this glove rocks, highly recommended. May 2, 2013
