WHY ACTIVE suspension?

WHY ACTIVE suspension?

Black Diamond packs built with our award-winning active suspension systems—ergoACTIV, ergoACTIV XP, reACTIV and reACTIV XP—are unparalleled in comfort, efficiency and load transfer. Because the shoulder straps and hipbelt move with you, friction and hot spots are eliminated. The pack’s load stays perfectly balanced at all times—without adjustment—and allows your body to move naturally in any direction. This results in a more efficient, comfortable, longer stride—meaning you can cover more ground, more quickly.

Element 60 Pack is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior design. Just got back from 5 days backpacking in the San Juan's. Pack was extremely comfortable, and had plenty of capacity(I'm a light packer). The most impressive thing is the attention to small detail. The cinch feature on the side pockets is genius. The zipper on the top compartment zips 3/4 of the way around the top, making access super easy. The front zip accessory pocket provides quick and easy access storage for a rain jacket or anything else you may need. There are also sweet straps already at the bottom of the pack for external tent or sleeping pad storage, which really increases the internal capacity. I even fell in a stream wearing the pack I thought that most of my gear would be wet, but it was bone dry. Totally satisfied with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2 and a 5 You know when you meet someone and they seem pretty perfect, then all of a sudden, you realize…she/he is not the one? In most accounts, considering BD is a major manufacturer, this is an excellent pack with almost lightweight materials and a solid, uncompromising design. There are a few bells and whistles that might turn away the intended lightweight buyer, but all done with good taste such as the half zip access to the bottom of the pack. While I might have minor gripes about a few things like the almost-wonderful water bottle pockets, in the end, the horse shoe shoulder strap harness system that BD uses on this pack and others had an unrelenting tendency to dig into the base of my neck or upper back, making this pack unusable for me. Its possible that it was a fluke sewing job or batch, but the harness system, undoubtedly strong, was unfortunately never going to work for me. Mostly, i write because this pack has such potential. A durable, lightweight(ish) pack from a company that, no doubt, stands behind its product; tweak the shoulder harness and you have an excellent pack with a solid warranty at a great price point. Had it fit my shoulders/back better, would have been a keeper! 5'11", 32" inseam, L size torso length fit great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ruck I just had lower back surgery and had been experimenting with other UL Backpacks and they just didn't have anything to offer as far as lower lumbar comfort. The Element 60 was a gamble that paid off big for me on helping me and my gear reach a summit that had eluded me for 4 years (Glacier Peak in Washington State). The suspension built in to the backpack was key, it moved with me and not against me as the UL packs had done and I had no back pain what so ever with this Pack and now my extended ventures are much more enjoyable. The shoulder padding does lose it's comfort after about 35 lbs, anything under that and it handles great. The other main feature that I really like is the Huge outer pocket on the back where I can quickly load and unload my BD HiLight Tent and Vestibule without having to open the main compartment of my pack and expose the rest of my gear to rain and snow. The only thing missing is a pocket on the shoulder straps for a media device. Great job guys on the pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my needs. This pack is roomy, functional and comfortable. It is exactly what I was looking for. I'm planning to use it as my "large" ski patrol pack in the future.
