Rated 4 out of 5 by Michael Great Layering Piece This piece is GREAT under a technical hard shell or soft shell. Pros: The cuffs are great because they don't get in the way of the higher layers. This piece is very warm for it's weight. Breathes great. Seems to be relatively durable. BD's warranty on this piece. Cons: Hood is kind of uncomfortable. It could be because I have a big head, but the zipper, when zipped all the way up with the hood up, kind of digs into my chin. Can be too warm depending on the temperature. Absolutely no wind protection. This is expected though. If you wear a shirt under it that fits looser than the jacket does, then it can also be uncomfortable. Bottom line: I feel like most of my cons are nitpicking. Bought to replace an aging R1, and I am not disappointed. This is honestly better in almost every way, in my opinion. The only place where it falls short is the hood. November 22, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Sean Good except the zipper This is a great simple fleece with an awesome hood. I am happy that it is a full zip, however, the zipper tends to "tent" up in the middle which is obnoxious November 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Jason Great Start for BD I've found that this layer works well if you are moving when temps reach lower 40's or below. On some of the runs I've done in the neighborhood when it was warmer than that and I found it was too hot. Underneath I wear a synthetic t-shirt. Worked great wearing lightweight baselayer underneath (Icebreaker 200 L/S) on a recent climb of Mount Hood. Climbed at night in temperatures around 35 degrees with no wind and felt very comfortable in it as long as I kept moving. Had it been windy, I would have thrown on a shell. The fit is pretty good for me (5'8" and 175 lbs) with my only complaint is that it rides up my hips when active. Maybe BD is telling me I need to drop weight? High quality material and construction is solid. Wish this was designed a little more like the R1 Hoody where it wasn't a full zip and they used more elastic material at the waist to prevent riding up. I plan to use this many more times this season and think it's a versatile option to use with varying layers of clothing. November 1, 2013
