WHY ACTIVE suspension?

WHY ACTIVE suspension?

Black Diamond packs built with our award-winning active suspension systems—ergoACTIV, ergoACTIV XP, reACTIV and reACTIV XP—are unparalleled in comfort, efficiency and load transfer. Because the shoulder straps and hipbelt move with you, friction and hot spots are eliminated. The pack’s load stays perfectly balanced at all times—without adjustment—and allows your body to move naturally in any direction. This results in a more efficient, comfortable, longer stride—meaning you can cover more ground, more quickly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Versatile Pack - I wish the top was removable I have used this pack for skiing, hiking and recently a 3 1/2 week trip to Africa. It is very comfortable and I love the ergoACTIV suspension. It doesn't throw me off when I ski tele turns and it makes the load ride smoothly. I think it works especially well to keep the pack weight on my hips and my shoulders comfortable. I wish the top of mine was removable, although I just noticed that the newer version of this pack has a removable top pocket (but doesn't come in as cool of colors). I would have given this pack 5/5 if the top wasn't sewn on. My other concern is that small holes are easily ripping into the fabric at the top, near the draw strings. I hope this thinner fabric holds out. I am female, 5'4" and 125 lbs. I got the small and it fits very well. I was especially pleased by how well this pack travels. I packed all my stuff into it for my Africa trip and used it as a carry-on, and it fits well into overhead compartments and under seats--even on small planes. June 19, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Go to pack for single day adventures Great pack. The ergoACTIV system takes a little getting used to, but it is very adjustable. At first the lower back support feels hard, but after a few uses it breaks in very well. This pack shines when you need to do some scrambling or low fifth class. Its just the right size for the alpine - forcing you to take only what you need. The side straps are bomb for strapping poles or snowshoes, and the rope strap helps keep a cord in place. The brain is roomy for a shell, food, topo, etc. This pack will hold a full rack (double camalots and 12 alpine draws), harness, rope, and all the fixins. Keeps things pretty dry when you get dumped on. Foam padding could be a little more cushy, but I think any pack will feel tough when your weighted down trudging up that 5-mile approach to the base.
