Hot Forging vs. Cold Forging

HOT FORGING VS. COLD FORGING

We use two different forging methods to build carabiners—hot and cold forging. Each has its benefits and using both allows us to achieve the best possible shape, size and strength for each carabiner’s intended use. HOT FORGING, a process where both the rod stock and forge dies are heated, allows us to “move” the metal, creating more intricate shapes, such as our GridLock and Oz biners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Checks all the boxes My main criteria for carabiners are that they give me no issues, and have a smooth feel to them -- set and forget it. This Rocklock checks off all the boxes for me, so it stays in the bag. March 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Twistlock This is my favorite big pear biner. Have several of both twistlock and screwlock. Have used them for anchors, rappels, ascends. Can also make a great handle with a 3 - 1 haul when attached to a friction knot to help pull on a wet rope. Recently, while rappelling a waterfall, it began to rain, things got a little extreme. On the ascend out, had 2 different brands of tri-lock biners stick open because of fine sand and water. 4 of us had to avoid those and use twistlocks. They would self-clean if we just snapped the gates a few times, and they never stuck open. Gate spring also seems stronger then some brands. May not be the prettiest or most expensive biner, but they worked when others were sticking. Serious mud, sand, water, rain, didn't keep them from their job - to snap shut, every time. Thanks BD, well thought out piece of gear. March 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I love the autolock! I use it for my belay device and just give a squeeze check and then forget about it. Also for anchors. Screwgates can creep, the autolock doesn't. Last until I wear through the metal on the biner due to a ton of use. Solid. January 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by best size carabiners I think this carabiners are the best size in my personal opinion, confortable for every situation. August 31, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by large, easy screw-lock Im a firefighter, so the gloves make everything difficult and this is a very easy carabiner to use, at least at the station trying it out with my gloves on. I bought two, one for personal rescue and one for victim rescue, and the strength rating was very good. Its size allows for you to connect several ropes etc together if you need to, which is another key ability needed. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Basic and Big For a busy master point, big fingers, cold fingers, super-munters, and the like nothing beats this carabiner. April 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by simple and sleek screwagate A basic carabiner that does the job well. I use the screwgate version which is good for evrything. Overall seems robust. after & year of abuse, it's still in OK shape. Unfortunately not big enough for muti-pitch climbing. To setup a belay point, I need a 'main' biner big enough for 2 clove hitch knots (one on each rope), and another biner for my ATC. The rocklock isn't quite there in term of size. November 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent My sons and I use the Rocklock carabiners quite a bit. We have never had an issue with them. We do a lot of rappelling and they hold up great. November 3, 2013
