Hot Forging vs. Cold Forging

HOT FORGING VS. COLD FORGING

We use two different forging methods to build carabiners—hot and cold forging. Each has its benefits and using both allows us to achieve the best possible shape, size and strength for each carabiner’s intended use. HOT FORGING, a process where both the rod stock and forge dies are heated, allows us to “move” the metal, creating more intricate shapes, such as our GridLock and Oz biners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lightweight, quality, could use an update This is just as high-quality as any other Black Diamond krab- it doesn't suffer from being minimal and lightweight. You won't regret buying them. However, it is no longer the relative featherweight it once was. The Vaporlock pear krab weights only 2 grams more. Offset-D krabs can be found for 10 grams less. This won't matter for many people, but for those of us who climb miles from the trailhead and weight all our gear on a kitchen scale, you might want to wait on the Nitron and see if BD brings a new, lighter offset-D to the table in the future. Perhaps a locking Oz (hint hint)? July 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Carabiner This carabiner is very similar to the Black Diamond Positron, but slightly sleeker and lighter. The gate opens and closes quickly with ease. The Nitron is compact and easy to use with one hand. July 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love the Nitron! I bought about a dozen of these a while back and I'm so glad I did. They are really lightweight, they clip well, don't snag, and the rope runs really well through them. I use them for everything from building anchors to securing my pack to the belay and everything in between. Added bonus, my daughter likes the color of them. November 12, 2013
