DescriptionOur most versatile belay/rappel device, the Black Diamond ATC-Guide is now even lighter thanks to windows machined through the body. We also enlarged the auto-block release hole to accept a small carabiner. Multiple friction modes provide the optimal amount of stopping power when lowering or rappelling, and the device's guide mode lets you belay one or two seconding climbers off an anchor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by andreoktav from All-around device I got this in 2009 and still using it. It's a lightweight belay device. Great device whether you're a beginner or pro climber. I used it to train my belay catch/reflex before I tried the assisted-braking device.It's very useful when you rappel with double rope. The guide mode is a plus for multi-pitch or belaying from the top.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Thomas C from Excellent So far so good...Both the standard and friction modes work well. Friction mode is great for newbie lead belayers to add confidence when playing catch. I have not used guide mode yet but look forward to it... Device is disturbingly light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ward from seems like it's beefier than a few years back I think the design changes will result in a longer lasting and smoother belaying device. Holes in the side significantly reduces excess heat on the rope resulting in less wear.
