When did you first start climbing/skiing?25 years ago.
What do you most enjoy about your sport? To be in the nature with friends and travel to the cool places around the world.
How do you define success?I just know that we climbers have a problem with success, because if we top out, it doesn’t matter if it’s a boulder, big wall, or a mountain. After the short happiness of the success, we just think instantly for the next project! I think we are addicted!!!!
What are you most proud of, either in life, your sport or both?To be a athlete of the coolest brand, BD!
Who are your heroes?Bean Bowers.
What inspires you?A virgin piece of rock, with some holds on it. That’s super inspiring!!
What are your hobbies outside of your sport?Any sport to get fit for my sport!
What’s your guilty pleasure?I just given up on my guilty pleasure, I stopped smoking a year ago!
What are your hidden talents?I haven’t found out yet!
Tell us about your most favorite place in the world:I have seen a lot of nice places around the word, but me favorite is Switzerland and especially the south side. There is still so much to do!
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?First a hunter than a farmer and later a climber.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be, and why?Nothing, I’m perfect!!
Tell us about a time in your life when you have been scared:That was in 2002 when Ben Bransby and I climbed the Freerider on El Cap free in one day. But not the climbing was the problem. Preparing for the climb, we found some super useful kneepads in the Village store and thought that’s perfect for the off-widths pitch (the monster crack). We try them on and walked away, but not far—an unfriendly ranger held us back! We ended up walking handcuffed through the store, finger printed, photographed, forced to shower and change into regulation orange overalls. Just like in a bad movie! The experience of being arrested was fairly extreme and scary. We were both now sitting on the bunks in our cell like stupid gangsters. The plan to start the climb at 4am was far away!!!
Describe your perfect day:I just had one of this day a few weeks ago, finding a new huge boulder area in the more and more crowded Tessin (Switzerland). And being with my friends alone in the forest with a brush and hundreds of dirty new boulders. Just like kids on a big playground!!!!
How would your friends describe you?Ask them!
